Hack description

This SMB1 hack is the first of 10 SMB1 mini-hacks. It puts Mario in the Grassland World and he would then come face-to-face with Larry Koopa. This is the first ever complete SMB1 hack with a Koopaling in it instead of Bowser (he will appear in the last hack of this series).

Each hack will have 4 worlds in it.

And the best part: Superior graphics, all done by me. This is primarily a graphics/storyline series of hacks. Auto-scroll is also utilized here.

An ambitious project that became vaporware... but the initial installment is still well worth a tryhdofu2024-07-20Version 1.1

This Series would never get the other 9 parts promised in the description... but that doesn't take away from what was delivered. Fair level design, good looking sprite work, it leaves you wanting for more... now if the author makes a liar of me and delivers the other 9 parts, I won't at all be disappointed.

Rich, Unique VisualsMother Kojiro2019-03-28Version 1.1

What drew me in right away was the unique visuals, and they are gorgeous. Overall, they have kind of a loose marker-drawn look to them, but it all works together so remarkably well. Perhaps my favorite visual element is the new water, which reminds me of a peaceful day at the harbor, and creates a great new look for the lava, as well. Additionally, just the different places that this hack takes you have a fantastical feel to them, which is all the more impressive, considering that they are all relegated to the most basic of biomes: the grassland. Though it's been almost a decade since this hack's release with no word of the other 9 hacks, I would definitely play them should they ever come out.

This is a well put together hack but what shines the most imo is the graphic work. Some of the best original mario style sprites/tiles I've seen in a hack. The difficulty's a bit too easy for my taste but it's pretty close to the original. Has a few cool asm tweaks with BG tiles, note blocks, & an autoscrolling level. The last level was particularly long and my personal favorite one in the game.

Hope the author gets around to making more in this series because with the graphics and asm tweaks he made he's got a really nice base to build more hacks with.

Good hack.Kiokuffiib112010-06-17-

Difficulty isn't too hard. It feels alot like SMB 1's style.

However, I have a few complaints about this one.

1: On level 1-3, there's a powerup (Mushroom/fireflower (I'm guessing)) right by the end. It pops out (As a mushroom) and comes down. Touches the cloud, and vanishes. Literally, and totally.

2: On level 2-2, The scrolling was a nice touch, however, the scrolling is a bit too quick, and needs to be slowed down.

3: The music block (Actually a spring) doesn't stretch out fully. So if you hit it from below, the thud noise happens without you even touching anything. It would have been nice to have been coded in that way or stretched to fit the whole block, but that one is minor.

Overall a nice hack otherwise. It's mainly a level and graphics hack, but, given what it is, it's not bad. It does seem to have some coding included like the scroll.

Thanks for posting this one up, and I hope to see the rest soon!
