Hack description

This game had an absurd encounter rate, to the point it was unplayable. This patch reduces it by about 2/3.

2x Exp Plus Half Encounters Equals A Good Time.Raine2132024-06-29Version 1.0

2x exp and lower encounter rate make this game less of a grind, but purchasing equipment is difficult. A 2x money modifier would help greatly. Thank you to the dev!

Good addendums, needed moreMaruju2022-04-13Version 1.0

After finishing the game, with the patch and 2x XP, for less grinding, I have to say that at some places the encounter rate was still high... I wonder why the devs added so much battles to the game... End game simple battles are not 1 hit K.O. and take several turns... The original must have been unplayable... Anyways, with 2x XP, less battles would be welcome, I was very overpowered at the end ... Good hack overall. I enjoyed. (Game could be better)

Necessary Patch for a Great GameVortiene2022-01-29Version 1.0

This game was shunned by reviews when it came out for this one simple reason. It's a shame the game itself is really well made with quite a bit of content in it, only for it to fall to the wayside due to this glaring issue of overly high encounter rate that can so easily be fixed.

I played through the game a couple years ago with action replay codes to reduce the encounter rate and raise the EXP rate to balance things out. The game's got so many unique areas and quite a few side quests. If I had to say anything else that needs to be fixed with the game in the future by fans after this one thing, it's the potential bugs and softlocks the game is known to have if you do the wrong things. There are walkthroughs out there that will explain how to avoid these bugs, but it would be great for them to be simply fixed in general.

Thanks for making a patch version of this fix. The action replay codes for fixing the rates have sort of disappeared from easy searching online.

Makes a Great Game AccessiblePowerPanda2022-01-29Version 1.0

Never has a game needed this patch more than Black Sigil. This was a game that could have become a classic, but nobody had the patience to get through more than a handful of dungeons. Download this hack. Use the x2 Exp multiplier version. Then enjoy a great indie RPG with great characters, engaging story, and a unique battle system. Thank you, TheGreatBen, for making this available!

A couple of notes for newcomers to the game: 1. When you have the Sigil Blade equipped, that character will start each battle with a random status effect. This can be a little annoying, but is important to the story. 2. The battle system is not well-explained. The most important thing is to try every button. There are buttons that will skip your player's turn, allow you to free-run, and do pretty much whatever else you think you want to do, but none of it is explained. 3. Text Speed of 4 sometimes causes crashes. Nobody knows why, but if you skip that text speed, you'll avoid the crashes. 4. The final dual tech between Nym and Rogurd is bugged out, and you can't learn it. I am working on a patch for this.

Makes a game to avoid into a game to be playedRed Soul2022-01-29Version 1.0

This game always felt like a diamond in the rough. It must have had a troubled development since it was slated to appear on the GBA before being moved to the DS as its target platform and it shows - the touch screen doesn't add much to the game, if anything at all.

That said, the graphics and music are excellent, and the combat system takes a few pages off of Chrono Trigger's book, and that's a good thing in my opinion; the game is definitely worth being played.

However, it shipped (whether by design or mistake) with an insanely high encounter rate, and while that is not unheard of in JRPGs, few cases were as egregious as this game's, which made it impossible to appreciate the good points it had.

Funnily enough, this was brought to the deveopers' attention back when the game was fresh, and their response was something along the lines of that being an antipiracy measure (which obviously it wasn't, since it affected retail cartridges all the same.

Long story short, get this wonderful patch and enjoy this underappreciated gem pronto.
