Rom Name: 7th Saga, The (U) [!].smcHack description
The 7th Saga is an RPG that is infamous for its high difficulty and tedious grinding. Although the battle system is actually well designed, much of the math that governs it is senseless and discredits an otherwise exceptional game. This Patch Attempts to make the game challenging, but also require much less grinding than before. The 7 characters you can choose to play have been made more unique and more effective. All monsters have received changes to their stats: they generally are more difficult, but they give a lot more experience than they did before. In the original game the 3 magic elements of fire, ice, and lightning weren't very important because almost all enemies had the same resistances to all 3 elements. In this patch, a lot more monsters have unique elements that they are weak and resistant to.Screenshots

We are all familiar with the 7th Saga due to it's notorious difficulty. I managed to beat this back in the day (many curse words later) and has little replay value despite having 7 different characters to choose from. Now here is a proper re balanced style that fixes the major problems that made this title brutal in difficulty but at the same time, keeps the challenge alive, but far more fair. Elements now have a purpose as we have resistances and weaknesses to them and balanced stats that have a better focus on magic (Even Wilme) that can make his once laughable magic stat be actually quite lethal. There is a little bit more equipment for the other characters that generally have little to choose from now can improve on this. Adds flavor. Do not think that the villians are simple though, with the balanced stats makes for different strategies. Some enemies (including bosses) have a different style of fighting to keep you on your guard. Experience is granted more to reduce the tedious grinding as well. The scrip is untouched however. So, don't expect a new story, it's the same as we remember it. This hack truly gives this title a second chance to retry. No one gets an unfair advantage. And folks who never played this, well go for it! Credit to the creator of this face-lift. (Now if only a new re-write or new game would be created!)
| If You Liked 7th Saga You Need to Play This Patch! | Klaviaturist | 2011-03-08 | - |
First of all you will need an unheadered rom to properly play this. If you apply it to just a regular rom the stats will be totally haywire. The readme file is great but doesn't address the kind of rom needed. Anyway, this is a must play for fans of 7th Saga. This was a childhood favorite growing up and also one of the most frustrating games ever released due to the bizarre localization of the game. What with stats being horrible and the insane amount of level grinding needed to just get through the first few hours of the game. This patch really evens out the difficulty and makes the game a fun and not frustrating experience. It is really worth checking out.
| A better 7th Saga | fa11enstar | 2010-07-27 | - |
I've played 7th Saga dozens of times and two things always bothered me. For one, Wilme, Lux and Olvan were reduced to just using the defend (or power) and attack strategy. For another, Esuna, and to a lesser extent Valsu, were so weak and magic did about the same damage to every monster so the only reason to take a magic user was to have someone who could buff your fighter. In 7th Saga+ even fighters gain a high magic stat at level up so using magic is now an option. Different magic does different amounts of damage and monsters having different weaknesses and resistances make magic users much more useful. Also, hpcatcher and mpcatcher can drain twice as many points from monsters now and equipment is a bit stronger so the frail mages can survive battles later on. All in all it makes 7th Saga worth playing through a few more times.
