Hack description

This eliminates full screen flashing during spell casting, and some other full screen effects (most screen shake and most full screen color rotations). It was done for a person with a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) but it has been play tested from beginning to end with no full screen flashing found.

There is still at least one scene with screen shake, one scene with full screen color rotation, and one "wipe" transition that gets used frequently.

For most people the no-flash.ips patch may be the best choice. The main FinalFantasyFlashReduction.ips patch removes several other effects.

See the Readme.txt for more information.

I can play Final Fantasy now!smbhax2023-05-17Version 2022-03-26

In my older age here, flashing effects in games can trigger migraines when my eyes are tired, so I've had to avoid playing a lot of games in recent years, especially Japanese RPGs, which pretty much all have copious flashing effects-including my favorite, Final Fantasy! I wanted to go back to the game I remembered fondly, but just couldn't due to the flashing effects.

Until I was pointed to this patch! It does just the thing-getting rid not only of flashing effects from spells, random encounter starts, and so forth, but also even removes the screen shake effect triggered when any character is hit in battle.

Wonderful! I can play Final Fantasy again! = D

If only patches like this existed for more games, that would be wonderful-and if only modern game designers would include similar options in their games for those of us who are photosensitive! I'd love to be able to try Dragon Quest 11, for instance...

Oh well. Until that happens, I can keep playing this patched Final Fantasy. : )

A valuable resource sorely needed.CourierRice2022-03-27Version 2022-03-26

My experiences in the Retro category on Twitch have led to me realizing there are a lot of retro game fans who either developed epilepsy later in life, or at the least would get severe headaches from flashing effects, preventing them from enjoying their favorite hobby. While not extremely sensitive to it myself, flashing lights are still harder to look at in my thirties than they used to be. Every day I see a new anti-flash hack released is a good day. Hopefully one day there can be an organized effort to do this for all older games that need it.
