Hack description

This is a fan-made sequel to Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. It features a new, lore
friendly (to the best of my abilities) story with Roy returning as the main protagonist. It was made in a two-month period using FEBuilder in my spare time.

The goal of this hack is to provide people who enjoy the gameplay of the original
Binding Blade with new challenges, new strategies and a new story. Players are
recommended to have played through the original game on hard mode before playing
this hack, as it was designed with a challenging-but-fair difficulty in mind.

Narration for chapter 1:

It has been three years since Roy, the heir to Pherae, put an end to King Zephiel and his world-conquering ambitions. Ever since then, good diplomatic relations have been established between the nations of Elibe. Queen Guinivere of Bern has been working closely with King Mordred of Etruria to stifle any sign of public unrest following the war, ensuring that no grudges are allowed to take root in either nation. In addition, the legendary weapons that were used to end the dragon threat have all been distributed to the various nations and regions of Elibe. They serve as symbols that the peace was forged in unity:

The sword Durandal is kept in Pherae;
the axe Armads is kept in Ostia;
the lance Maltet is kept in Ilia;
the bow Murgleis is kept in Sacae;
the light tome Aureola is kept in Etruria, as is the accompanying Saint's Staff;
the anima tome Forblaze is kept in Arcadia;
and the dark tome Apocalypse resides in Bern, as does the magical sword Eckesachs.

It was believed that this distribution of these powerful artefacts would ensure stability in the event one nation grew overly ambitious, similar to that of Bern during Zephiel's reign. New developments have, however, shook this foundation of peace and order. Shin, appointed new leader of the Kutolah clan by the Silver Wolf, is facing several small scale attacks from an unknown enemy. Acquiring Murgleis appears to be their goal, as the treasure chamber in Bulgar, where it is being kept, seems to be targeted. Others are facing similar attacks, though it is difficult to prove that they are coordinated by a single group of individuals. This story begins as Roy attempts to fend off one of these attacks.

Version 2.0 notes:

The download now includes a strategy guide as well as a list of support partners for each of the new characters. Both of these files should be used with caution as they contain spoilers.

Does What It Sets Out to DoDarrman2023-06-14Version 3.0

The Second Scouring is a sequel to Sword of Seals, and it does that job quite well. In a similar vein to Book 2 of Mystery of the Emblem, Roy sets out on another adventure.

For a hack with a development time of two months, it's quite simple, but it doesn't really need to be complicated. It's basically more FE6. The story takes Roy on a second journey across Elibe, trying to defend the divine weapons from the mysterious force attempting to steal them. Along the way, he finds himself in many different situations, meeting new allies and occasionally crossing swords with old ones. While some things could be better explained at times (I won't go into detail here for fear of spoilers), the story kept me interested throughout.

The gameplay is very much like Sword of Seals. Enemies, especially in the mid-game chapters, are dangerous and are not to be taken lightly, while your units are comparatively weaker. In addition, the maps are long and any slip-up can result in death. Yet by no means is the difficulty extreme: finishing FE6 Hard is the recommended skill level for the player, and though I haven't done this I'm well enough versed in Fire Emblem I did not especially struggle at any point. Supports felt faster, too: Alan and Lance reached A by Chapter 15 without stopping at the end of chapters to level supports, for example.

Presentation isn't a focus: most new characters are boss or villager recolours and units have a tendency to just pop in before a map starts. But personally, I'm not particularly bothered about this. Excellent presentation can take a very long time: I'd rather a fully complete hack with boss recolours than a three chapter demo with immaculate artwork.

The hack aims to "provide people who enjoy the gameplay of the original Binding Blade with new challenges, new strategies and a new story", and I think it succeeds at doing this. Roy gets himself a sequel, and I enjoyed using some of the new units (such as Guinevere, visible in screenshots), along with some old ones (Lilina being fast in my run was fun). If you like the original FE6 and aren't bothered about the presentation, give it a go.

A fun time with some problemsAmppelix2022-04-27Version 1.1a

Quite a well-polished and long hack for how quickly it apparently came together. I don't like all the choices made with balancing and difficulty (some sections seemed like they would've taken a bit too much trial and error if i wasn't using savestates/rewind occasionally) and i didn't quite finish it, as late game chapters started being exhaustingly long, but i quite enjoyed my playthrough and might even come back to do the final parts some day. If you're looking for something new with GBA FEs and can stomach some rough edges here and there i don't think you can go wrong with trying this hack out!
