Fun to explore and customize the gametimeisup2022-06-18Version 2.6

I suppose some of these features are probably accessible with game genie, but it's convenient to have them accessible via menu in this romhack. Most of this feels like practice for debugging purposes but changing the music is fun. Granted, the way you do this with two different sets of buttons (select + x to scroll and select + a to play, I think) is a little tedious and cumbersome. Would be nice to do it via menu like the stage select and other options, but hey, it works.

I found the Skywalker attribute (walking on air from a platform rather than falling) to be the most interesting. (i.e. in stage 5-1, I walked off the cliff at start and as long as you can avoid getting hit by enemies you will reach the end of the screen and stage and go on to stage 5-2.) It doesn't seem to work always though, as in 4-2 where I tried several times to skywalk off the platform but kept falling to the spikes anyway (same happened in the chandelier room of stage 6). It's a little tedious to use because once you fall, you have to go back into the menu and enable it again, be nice if you could leave it on.

Another semi-interesting option is the disable death from pits. I found if I fall to a pit with this option I either have to restart the level manually or let the timer run out. One curious moment happened in stage 2-2 where I used both Skywalker and disable pitfalls and walked off the last ledge over the water. I got hit by a raven and fell but didn't die and the screen scrolled manually to the miniboss, Medusa, with whom I was not on screen to fight. Time elapsed and I died. The funny thing is, I tried this again, with the pitfall disable turned off so I would die like normal and sky walked again. The same exact thing happened! So, I suppose there must be a bug associated with dying in that area.

Another curious moment happened in stage 3-3. I fell in the water (again, with pitfall disable on) and didn't die. I was able to walk left and right but couldn't see Simon's sprite as I was underneath the water, off screen presumably. When I reached the staircase that lead to this screen, simply by touching it I was able to go to the previous screen and the game was playable again! So, here was at least one instance where disabling death didn't result in a timeout or room reset via menu.

Beating the game, of course as stated in the readme file, runs as normal but fails at the viper boss. Simon can be seen attempting to walk away from them and is fire-balled to death. After that he constantly falls to his death in water on the next screen. This is a very fun tool for which to play around!
