Tested as part of the ongoing Secret of Mana Turbo Project, by Queue (with various resources provided by zhaDe as part of Secret of Mana: New Game Improvement). Latest version used.

What a great idea! I can at least understand the idea of limiting Consumable stocks a player can have, at any one time, but making the limit 4 per item is unforgivable. Even in a game that in its Vanilla form, is not that hard to break in plenty of other ways.

This idea has been executed very well, surpassing the original hardcoded limit by using more than 3 bits to hold the amount of any one item. I don't know exactly how the Creator did that, but whatever it was, it has been done well. A huge boon to the player and the game. Like other patches on ROMhacking, this one now opens the door wide for the game to be rebalanced/made harder in other respects.

I refuse to play the original SNES game without this patch installed. It's that good, plain and simple.

Having 9 of each item instead of just 4 is very useful, especially when you are fighting a magic intensive battle and need the "Fairy Walnuts". Tough bosses can often kill in one spell/hit and the extra "Cup of Wishes" are invaluable!

Additionally, this patch seems to be universally compatible with all other mods/patches that are here on RHDN. Have tried every combination of other SOM mods with this one and it has no adverse effect on them. So patch away and enjoy having 5 extra of each item!
