Hack description

Metal Sonic Rebooted is a complete heavy modification of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by Lone Devil for the Sega Genesis that won the Sonic Hacking Contest 2017. It features an extensive amount of new art, layouts, mechanics, music and features that in total create a different experience.

Story:

Dr. Robotnik has built an advanced army of Badniks to search for the Chaos Emeralds, and it's up to Metal Sonic to find the emeralds before them by destroying everything in his way to show Robotnik he shouldn't be replaced.

Controls:

- ↓ + A/B/C - Spindash
- ↓ (Midair) - Fastfall: Fall instantly downwards in a rolling state. Holding down the jump button while bouncing off from a monitor or Badnik will boost your jumpheight. Try fastfalling down slopes for instant speed.
- ↑ + A/B/C - Overdrive Attack: Speed burst at the cost of 5 rings.
- ↑ + A/B (Midair) - Vertical Aerial Dash: Holding down the jump button will blast you upwards to reach upper routes or shortcuts at the cost of 10 rings.
- ←/→ + A/B (Midair) - Diagonal Aerial Dash (only in Super form): Blast horizontally at the cost of 5 rings.
- C (Midair) - Overclocked Mode: Requires 200 Rings to overheat Metal Sonic for extended invincibility and speed that quickly drains your rings to death. Can also turn Super with all 7 Emeralds and 50 Rings.

Level Select & Knuckles:

Sonic 2 cheats are intact and Knuckles can be selected by doing the level select cheat from Sonic 1. Sonic 2 Continues cheat will give you 999 rings if you need a taste of Overclocked Mode.

The author re-envisioned his previous Metal Sonic game as they are more well versed into hacking and the Genesis programming, as it shows in this release. A polished modification, giving veterans of the original gameplay a more in-depth experience, as the player can use the collected rings in the form of abilities and more new stages.

This is a great overhaul of Sonic 2. The new level design, gameplay changes, and complete visual modifications are all top notch. Props to the developer for managing to make such an engaging and well-designed hack, especially one that innovates on the traditional 2D Sonic formula. This hack comes fully recommended from me, so make sure to sit down, turn the volume up, and get ready for a fantastic Sonic experience.

First of all, this is one of my favorite hacks from this author. Why is that? 1. Excellent Level Design, which, although it has bugs from the original game, is made so interesting that they are especially invisible. Plus, this is a huge replayability 2. The graphic part is almost completely redesigned, which clearly now faintly resembles the original Sonic 2. 3. Redesigned graphically and partially AI enemies. There are also new enemies 4. Completely redrawn Bosses and changed their AI. Much more difficult and interesting than even in the original Sonic 2 5. A special monitor with an assistant, the introduction of new features in the hack 6. Music - which perfectly conveys the atmosphere of the locations in the game. A global reworking of Sonic 2 with a new, really new character, new locations, atmosphere, entourage and style. It is REALLY played in a new way. It's juicy and interesting. I recommend that you also plunge into this creation
