Hack description

"No Spin Tetris" started out with the idea of whether or not it is possible to make a fun version of Tetris where, instead of rotating the pieces, the player has to change them in another way. To do so, the pieces would have to morph instead via shifting, growing, or shrinking.

After lots of trial and error, 7 pieces were settled upon that do just that (while complimenting each other gameplay wise as well). It might seem quite difficult at first, but that is only because you end up having to think about the gameplay in a completely different way than other variations of Tetris.

Better Than Throwing Dice in an Alley with the GopnikiCreature6672023-03-02Version 1.0

Like one of the reviewers before me mentioned, after downloading and trying several theme hacks that don't change the gameplay at all, this one caught my eye. Especially as its main gimmick is doing something I used to challenge myself to do as a kid on the Gameboy version. Try to get as far as I could without rotating any tetrominoes. This, of course, has the benefit of having custom pieces to offset the original ones being too awkward or cumbersome to play a proper game. And then also being able to morph the tetrominoes to better fit the playfield. The morphing factor takes some getting used to but all in all it offers a fun and unique spin (no pun intended) on this Soviet classic.

Great concept, but...Draconiator2023-03-01Version 1.0

It kind of falls flat on its face in execution. Some pieces are absolutely frustrating to place (the diagonal pieces), the rest are usually too small to be of any use, unless you actually like clearing 1-2 lines at a time. Can't recommend right now.

Good twistlordelan2023-03-01Version 1.0

After playing several graphic hacks that don't alter the gameplay over the last couple of days, I'm always very eager to try out hacks that offer a twist. This hack does just that. I've had fun with it and made it to level 4.

However I would have also enjoyed it, if pressing A (or B) would just rotate through two different of the main game tetrominos (still not rotatable of course).

Anyway: An interesting hack!
