Hack description

Based on the final redesigned Super Mario World Redrawn, this hack allows the player to live the Super Mario World experience with modern graphics. The difference is that now the game is saved automatically, the game starts in a single file and with Mario and includes new powers in the red and blue blocks. Also restores access to the Star Road after defeating Big Boo in the Donut Secret House. Enjoy it.

Gorgeous new graphics!Carnivius2024-07-13Version Final

Beautiful new graphics that give SMW a nice fresh look. Definitely one of my fave patches for SMW. :) Have a nice day. :D

The game is really stunning to look at, every detail is beautiful. The Koopalings for example are with their current sprites, minus the credits, but that doesn't matter much. However, there are some things that could change. Fire Mario with orange tone didn't look good, sometimes I wondered if I really had this power-up because I thought the orange one was the red of regular Mario. Along with the Fire Flower sprites that didn't match the most current sprites in games. And if they could change it to when Mario has a power up and he takes damage, he just loses the power up instead of going into small Mario form would be great, that's very annoying.

Great but can still be improvedLigeia2022-04-26Version Final

First I'd like to say that I've always loved SMW Redrawn very much. It does a fantastic job at improving the game's visuals, and I'm a bit baffled it is not used more often as a base for other romhacks.

The new added touches are very welcome. The game saving after each level is a neat plus, I've never understodd why this was not a default feature. Does anyone ever want to do levels again if they previously didn't have time to get to the save point ?

Restoring the Star Road access is also a great idea. Part of the fun in SMW is being able to finish it in a short session if you want to, and most hackers don't get it unfortunately. The Star Road shortcut is a tremendous asset in the game's replayability.

So I did finish the game using the Star Road shortcut and I have a few nipticks about things that could be improved :

  • Mario & Yoshi's world map sprites are weird with those creepy red/green eyes
  • the black fade out in the end of each level seems a little glitched
  • the light switch in Bowser's Castle doesn't work properly(Ninjis also have a weird green palette)
  • there are places where the usual black "wallpaper" has been changed to grey or dark blue, which is unfortunate in my opinion
  • Peach's walking animation is kinda botched
  • the ending screen could use some polishing to correct those blue outlines (the artwork does look great otherwise)

There's some other stuff I wish was implemented to make this the ultimate version of the game :

  • I don't like Fire Mario's SMB3 orange palette. It would be neat if the classic white & red palette was used instead.
  • adding the ability to choose between Mario & Luigi (like in the recent SML DX v2.0) would be awesome.
  • It would also be great to implement some way to keep track of the collected Yoshi Coins, like in the GBA version. I never saw any incentive to collect Yoshi Coins in the original SNES game because there's no way to keep track of which ones you collected nor any worthwhile reward for doing so.

I think that's all. I know I always complain a lot but this hack is great nonetheless, try it !
