Hack description

Chrono Trigger's soundtrack is widely acclaimed as one of the best of all time. However, the songs you hear in the game are not the complete soundtrack. There are actually 12 more songs that are part of Chrono Trigger's larger identity.

And finally, songs that exist only as data chunks in the rom

This patch expands the soundtrack of the SNES game to include all 12 songs. For the 5 songs that were never on a Super Nintendo cartridge, small re-arrangements have been made to recreate the music on the SNES sound chip. There are no tricks going on here; all music that you hear is actually playing through the SNES sound engine, with no MSU-1 audio required.

There are 6 versions of the patch included. One is the standard patch which you can add to an unmodified rom. One is a data only patch for romhackers that adds the new music, but does not place it anywhere in the rom. The other 4 are addendum patches that allow you to add the Soundtrack Expansion to other popular romhacks, including Enhansa Edition, 2 versions of the Bugfix and Uncensoring Patch, and Chrono Trigger+.

Good hack but not without issue	etecoons	2023-03-14	Version 3.0
Replaying the game for the first time in a long time and it's my girlfriend's first time. This hack is pretty good. I liked the updated song when Marle follows you around the fair. But changing from Lucca's Fanfare to Frog's theme in the Cathedral doesn't really make sense to me. His theme has a little bit of a sad tone, hearing it in the Cathedral after being successfully saved doesn't really work for me, and detracts from his theme later when you hear it after he decides to leave Queen Leene behind. Worse, during he trial, when the game showed a flashback to the Millenial Fair, the music changed from the intense, spooky trial theme to the happy, uppity Millenial Fair theme and didn't change back. Yikes! On the whole, these two issues detract too much for me to go on using this patch for my GF's first playthrough. It was used with the Bugfix and Uncensoring Patch which may be causing the issue, but unfortunately until all issues are verified as resolved, I'd either use this patch on its own or skip it. Not much to say but a big "thanks" to everyone involved since the "new" pieces of music are as beautiful as the stock ones and justify another playthrough. :)
