Welcome to Mega Man Ultra Challenge, my first ever complete ROM hack! In this boss rush adventure, you will find robot masters with brand new arenas! Sometimes the AI doesn't have to be changed! This hack modifies levels, colors, and moves up the score. This hack WILL NOT work on a Rockman ROM. Only Mega Man.Screenshots

There's lots of goofs and bugs here and there, and Fire Man's room is a pain to navigate, but it's not easy to make a good 'Mega Man' game either. In my opinion, 'Ultra Challenge' is a breath of fresh air for those returning from the absolute warzone that is 'Rockman Claw.' The excitement that the hack's name instills reminds me of Saturday morning cartoons, and the hype that Mega Man himself was born from (e.g. the Rockman Famicom commercial). With the existence of Itsbazs' first hack, they proved their skills in room design, moveset changes and color palette changes. I especially love how Elec Man's room looks like an abandoned factory in Manchester. It's not the best Mega Man effort I've played, but it doesn't have to match the behemoth experiences of 'The New Lands Remastered.' They have a future ahead of them, and they're off to a good start with the skills they've already learned. No-one is perfect.
| Mega Man Ultra Challenge - BAD | Dobu_GM | 2024-03-13 | Version 1.0.1 |
Mega Man Ultra Challenge Levels: No Levels Graphics: Bad Music: No Change Enemies: No Change Bosses: Bad Weapons: No Change Castle: No Castle Difficulty: EASY Comments: Calling this hack "Ultra Challenge" is like calling Mega Man III Against the World "Babies Mode". Nothing about this boss rush is hard; due to the increased jump height, you can mow through most of the bosses without having to even move left or right. The visuals are frequently ugly if not bugged, and even the modified boss arenas fail to freshen up the combat (Yellow Devil is now a waste of time!) The best thing about this hack is that it can be beaten in 10 minutes with minimal frustration—but I wouldn't even recommend spending that long on this.
| Has some bugs, but I had fun. | kimura_gracie | 2022-08-27 | Version 1.0.1 |
Boss rooms are pretty cool. And I like the idea of a pure boss rush. Makes for a short game to beat in one sitting as long as its not too difficult. This one is fairly easy, seems to have the same boss ai as the original. Buster does a lot of damage, and the pause glitch is still present. Mega Man has a much higher jump and moves a little faster. I don't normally like a change in physics when it comes to mega man, but there's no platforming, so the extra jump/speed was actually pretty fun in the boss fights. There's few graphical glitches, and I had one death where I re-spawned in a wall and immediately died. Also the boss selection screen music keeps resetting every time you move the cursor in Mesen. But the glitches didn't hinder my ability to play, just made me laugh, and might be the most charming part of the game, bearing witness to the trials and tribulations of creating a rom hack. I beat it in 15 - 20 minutes, got some retroachievements, had some fun and some laughs. The creator says its their first finished hack, and for that I think its a good job.
| Extremely buggy, but has potential | Scposteel | 2022-06-19 | Version 1.0.1 |
There is a lot of potential in this hack, but in its current state it's hard to recommend. In a nutshell this is a boss rush, sort of. The stages are strictly the boss fights. However it is riddled with crippling bugs. Stuff I liked: 1. Boss chambers are unique, at least in the Robot Master stages 2. Mega Man gets a serious speed and jump boost 3. Short and sweet Things I didn't like: 1. Incredibly buggy, just on my playthrough I found the following bugs. a. Numerous distorted background and pixel glitches. From Mega Man, to backgrounds, enemy attacks, there's too many to count. b. Main Menu audio seems to be stuck on a loop when a stage is selected. c. Some enemies don't even appear (Yellow Devil) d. When I died in Ice Man the whole game reset e. On occasion the bosses would get trapped, or I'd go through the gate and the stage would loop back locking me out. There's potential here for a fun game, but in it's current state I can't recommend this one. It needs a lot of fine tuning to be worth the time to play.
