| The Rebranding deserves much more... | P41R47 | 2024-03-26 | Version 1.0001 |
I played this one a few hours... and from the get go, something really bothered me. Supposelly, the title of the game is Star Beasts, but the word POKEMON apearred all over the game as if those were the creatures to catch in the game. Also, aside from dialogues, creatures to catch, trainer graphics, there is nothing in the game's world changed. Pallet Town is still Pallet Town, same with Pewter City and Cerulean City, but with different NPCs lurking around. What i am trying to say, is that this rebranding hack deserves a proper complete overhaul of the in game maps and story. To differentiate itself from the base game. To be its own thing. And to be a perfectly enjoyable game inspired by the original franchise. Aside from that little criticsism, there is nothing bad to say about this hack. I recommend it as a DEMO of what a proper game could be.
| 100% completed on Stream in 43:44. Wow, what a unique Hack! | FoxRoode | 2022-10-03 | Version 1.0 |
Hey there, Shout out to Valor Soul for making such a cool rom hack! The game was pretty wild, with really unique Star Beasts (Aka Polkamons). I enjoyed the game quite a bit. There were a few rough patches like the thief on the SS Anne, and the the "Ice Queen" outside of Fuchsia which seemed out of place BUT were a great addition to the challenge! Comments about hack: 1. The spawn rates for some of the Star Beasts were insanely low. Like, not fun to find for hours low. The ones I had this experience with were:
2. Star Beast #122 in Victory Road. This gives almost no EXP (97 to 207 EXP max in my play through). This was truly brutal with the hypnosis aspect being spammed constantly AND THE EXPLOSION ATTACK! If it wasn't the 40% encounter, this would be more doable. But this thing felt like a huge waste of time and loss of leveling potential before the E4. 3. The .txt file was incomplete. This would have been really useful for finding out the movesets, locations, and levels of evolution. I feel that some players may be turned off because there is almost no information out where when playing this hack. It is a great experience living through the Pokemon madness with the first Generation as there was no internet to search for answers. This alone replicated an experience I haven't had in many years while playing games. 4. Many of the first Gen glitches were still left in the game. I'm assuming this was a feature, NOT a bug. :D You can cheese out as many nuggets, Missingno and the other Glitchmon all you want for that 2.5K EXP bonus to make grinding easier (either for cash or EXP). Final thoughts. This rom hack is quite good. The Star Beasts feel quite original. The names are the best aspect as someone is a punster. They have character, live, and feel like 'real' Fakemon. The story dialogue was 80-90% similar to Red/Blue/Yellow but the small details made it worthwhile talking to every NPC. The hiker after Dark Tunnel was hilarious to read, along with other NPCs talking about the gym leaders, events, and which Star Beasts evolve with certain items. This rom hack was extremely enjoyable and people who watched me stream it said they'd want to check it out for themselves. It was a little bit grindy at some parts, but that's part of the Gen 1 experience. I look forward to Gen 2 of Star Beasts as [spoiler] indicated another region. Thank you for the experience and I look forward to other hacks that you make!^^
| A good gen 1 fakemom hack | another_typal | 2022-08-06 | Version 1.0 |
I just completed the elite four and have seen every Pokemon (not captured), overall it was a good hack that had only minor issues. As the other review states the burglar fight on the S.S. Anne was out of place, as is the fight to the right of Fuchsia City, and one of the trainers on the bike path facing the water. They tend to have Pokemon 10 levels or so above yours, they are doable but so out of place. The main quibble I have however is that victory road has this annoying Pokemon that makes up a majority of encounters but gives abysmal exp and has absurd speed with explosion, for those that like to level a bit before the elite four without cheating this makes for a pretty bad experience even with fast foward. The majority of the new Pokemon designs look nice and felt like they could be real Pokemon, typing was unique and fun to figure out and really it's what makes this hack worth playing. As stated in the other review the guide included with the patch is incomplete and needs fixing but overall it is more of a fun experience to go in blind.
| Unable to evolve Spriggle with Holy/Dark Soul | ItsRainingGravy | 2022-08-01 | Version 1.0 |
Been enjoying the hack so far. Just got to Lavender Town where an NPC told me I could evolve Spriggle, but it will not trigger. I can evolve Ogrue using the Holy/Dark Souls into Cemenary and Bagavond, but Spriggle cannot become neither Weedimp nor Slaymore. Additionally, the information provided in the Beast Information & Location is messed up and most Pokémon are listed as being Electric/Flying. Aside from these issues, I have not noticed anything else major at the time being. The Burglar fight on the S.S. Anne was a bit rough, however. Managed to scrape by, but the levels could be dropped a tad. Lastly, the encounter rate on Dragleam could be increased slightly. Spent ~4-6 hours looking for one. Anyways, thanks for making this. Most of the Star Beast designs are surprisingly decent overall. EDIT: It evolves via level-up apparently, so the NPC to the left of Lavender Town had incorrect/misleading information.
