Excellent conversion, but why not use the samples of the screams from the Sega CD version for more resemblance to the arcade? To continue like this is great!! and why not do the same with Super Street Fighter 2 on 32X?

This is the first time that I've seen a Genesis title "converted" for the 32X or rather to take advantage of the 32X resources, even though it isn't playable on real hardware at this point. While I agree with other reviewers about this hack coming a bit short given the potential, I still think it is an amazing feat, and in fact it's the only such hack. I'm sure that the fact that it isn't easy to make it work on real hardware is part of the reason why we don't see more hacks like this, but personally it's very exciting to be able to experience this even if it is restricted to emulation. Kudos @jvisser, astonishing work. If you can, do try to fix the enemies' sprites to come closer to their Arcade counterparts. Other than that, awesome. I hope this hack inspires others to improve other Genesis ports, or any game in general, using the leverage of the 32X.

I could not agree with Pethronos review more. This hack does exactly what its author claims to do : adding all maps of the arcade game and all enemies placements to a "virtual" 32x version of the game, based on the Genesis one. The characters (and the beasts!) sprites, however, remains the Genesis default ones, with their ugly flashy colors and the limited and awful sounds, plus some animation frames clearly missing. So the end result is quite weird, like if SEGA developed a prototype of a true arcade conversion and stopped it in the middle of its development... Still, adding the arcade maps and proposing the arcade backgrounds and "What a 32x version of this game could have been" is both a technical exploit and a good start for a possible 100% true Golden Axe conversion in some future... In the meantime, maybe SCD and YoSoyNacho will be able to rework both the sounds and the default ugly flashy palettes of the Genesis sprites of this new Golden Axe version... Only time will tell, we can only hope for this to occur and keep our fingers crossed...Meanwhile, now this is quite an interesting starting point on the hacking scene!

This is a good start and a step further in making MD Golden Axe resemble the original arcade game. However, I think that the sprites colors should be toned down a bit to more pastel tones, like the other recolor hacks do. It'll be interesting to see how this hack evolves. Thanks for this.
