| Really good. Not Disappointed | Timaeus | 2022-09-21 | Version 1.0d |
This is a really good fast paced hack of Megaman 2. Stalker Maestro's works have been an inspiration for me, especially the way they use the tiles and graphics. After playing his edit hacks of Megaman 3 and Megaman 5 Metropolis, I was expecting this one to be good like them, and it is. The level design is good overall, and aside from some sections, most of it is actually fun to go through, especially with weapons and utilitiues later on. There are some sections that are very slow and pace killing, but the good parts makes up for it in my opinion. My biggest complain is Crash Man's stage really, where it can be frustrating without utilities, but that is about it really. The weapons are all great and nice little edits of the original ones. Their power and damage have been increased and tweaked too, making them even more useful overall. The utilities also helps ALOT on the road, and they have really cool names too. Nice job! The graphics are good. Some parts look abit messy, mainly a few off tiles in Air Man's stage, but overall, most of them were very well mixed out and used really nicely, just like I expected from the author. The bosses are a mix, but there are more good ones than bad ones, and even then they are not that bad either. Air Man's blowing goes too fast, messing up sliding under the tornadoes, Quick Man stays out of your reach for much longer than needed and I think Heat Man could have only one dashing timer before stopping and reset his attack pattern, but other than that, the bosses are very good, sometimes great actually. My favorite is Heat Man and Bubble Man. Very nice takes on these fights (Bubble Man here is better well handled than 2 Another's Cosmo Man, which both follows similar concepts). The musical part is mostly from other hacks, but I do understand why and how difficult it is to port songs to it, so I do not mind that much. Also, Wily 2 and Wily 4 songs are great. So, overall, this is a really good hack with a few issues here and there, but the good parts make up for these little issues. Great job Stalker Maestro, and thanks for crediting me as well. I recommend it~

And just like that, we have our first (mostly) positive review from me. For as long as I've played STK's hacks, I've always dreamed that he would release a Burst Chaser-styled hack of the second game, and I'm happy to say that this dream has become a reality. With that said, here are the pros, cons, and weaknesses: PROS: Outstanding weapons that assist in ripping through enemies; the 3 new songs (title/credits, Wily 2, & Wily 4) are absolute bangers, and the borrowed songs from other hacks are very fitting for the atmosphere; the boost impulse from sliding is extremely useful for wide jumps, and something I've wanted to see in a MM2 hack, where most contain wide jumps; the Springer's calm behavior is a very welcome addition considering we had to deal with a lightning fast one in YJ; the graphics are as polished as ever; the level design is both clever and spectacular and doesn't go overboard too much, especially compared to the last game released on this site (Firework Master); some of the bosses are very fun to fight, especially Crash Man; even the Force Beam stage is more fun than usual because you're fast enough to keep up with how early the Beams activate; the callbacks to older hacks are really cool (electricity from Unprecedented, Flash Man from Core, Tellies from Claw 2); the reskins of the Robbits are also cool; the Guts Tank can throw you off since you can't jump on it, but the Metal Blade being its weakness makes the fight more comfortable; Item 1 is an absolute godsend for some of the tricky areas of the hack, including the ones with unavoidable damage. CONS: The attack damages from some enemies can be irritating sometimes, especially with regular bullets. This bothers me because the bullets are now as strong as the white orbs, and it doesn't do anything other than decrease the chance of the player's survival. 3 points of damage would fare better for a projectile the size of a golf ball in my opinion; there are a couple instances of unavoidable damage, like one room in Flash Man's stage where the Sniper Armor shoots you from above and you can't dodge its bullets' trajectory, and one Crash Lift room in Wood Man's stage where the top-left electricity seems unfairly placed; the pause glitch was nerfed a bit, so you can't use it against the Boobeam Traps who shoot too fast in a small space; Air Man's tornados go a little too fast, so it's very frustrating to dodge unless you have his weakness; Time Stopper doesn't work on any boss, but I guess it's a reference to Gravity Hold in Metropolis. Robot Master Weaknesses: Bubble Man - Leaf Shield, Air Man - Bubble Lead, Metal Man - Air Shooter and Metal Blade, Crash Man - Metal Blade, Quick Man - Crash Bomb, Heat Man - Quick Boomerang, Flash Man - Atomic Fire, Wood Man - Quick Boomerang. Aside from the few inconveniences explained, I will go as far as to say that STK vs. The Rockmen is one of the best Rockman hacks of 2022, alongside SW. Once again, STK has outdone himself with his fast-paced mastery and I can't wait to see more from this guy someday. God bless you all and enjoy the rest of your day!
| Not too bad | MagnetFirstBro | 2022-09-11 | Version 1.0a |
I was okay with it, of course, I found a few places along the way that didn't make sense, but people don't normally go there, so that's okay. Bubble man BOSS is easier, and I know that's due to technical issues, so that's okay too (At least it looks better than the YJ I did) Air man: the music is from Timaeus' hack, Mega man Speed Bomber's Cut man music, some of the enemies are references to other hacks, and the background design is a city, you can tell it was done with care. And the clouds look original (as they move left and right here, the original moves in a circle) and the PiPi here doesn't smash eggs! Now he's hindering the player with high speed, which I like :) The tornado released by the Air man BOSS is really fast, but the good thing is that you can fight it off with Bubble, if not, then you'll have to rely on your eyesight... By the way, Item-2 is a copy of Rockman 2 AB, except that it can be turned left and right. Metal Man: the BGM is a bit loud, but okay, the enemy configuration is tricky and okay, and the main thing is: it's like Rockman 2 GX with a longer flow and Robbits changed mapping (although there are some problems) Having to wait a long time for a round to come out is supposed to be a kind of minor drawback when making a balance. The Metal man boss was average, I could beat him without any damage (I think it was also balanced) Clash man: It's clear that this level is intended as a tribute to the Mega man X series (the BGM is also audible), the current of Rockman 2 UP is present here, and it's even better configured than that. And here's Boon Block, which has the kind of challenge of Minecraft's parkour maps and the complexity of Mega man 6, coming to the record point, which I think is more of a tribute level to the Mega man X series. Because the level design out there is pretty much the same as the Mega man X series, if not kind of the same, and the Fly boy on this level isn't too hard to dodge. NOTE: The flow of this level has also been lengthened, but instead of removing the plot, it's been moved elsewhere. The Clash man BOSS isn't really hard, and with Metal it's even easier to fight, though the bomb blast has the obvious Rockman 2 Claw effect placement, but that's fine. Quick Man: Force Beam is easier here, as the player has the fast movement boost, but just right, and Rockman 2 Claw's Force Beam configuration is presented here. Personally. The amount of falling platforms in the second half is a bit much, as you have enough speed to jump over him (but at least it's more friendly for newbies) The Quick man BOSS has an AI a bit like Rockman 2 Claw and is just as fast, but that's fine, isn't it? And its weapon is actually Rockman 2 AB's, the difference being that it has an expanded attack range. Woodman: Needs a lot of sliding shovels to slide through the current area (kind of wondering why there's a current here), and also found the little breakthrough that the area where the level generates fire is actually made by Squirm. So it can be knocked out. Wood man boss's foliage was modified to be a diagonal attack, but I was able to use pause to defeat him without injury (a bug that was in the original version) Heat Man: uses a not-so-great BGM (but at least it fits the background better), other than that there's not much else to say ...... Sorry. Heat man BOSS has been enhanced in one part, it automatically turns when it sprints, which is a bit stronger than the original version. Item-1 is invincible, I've used it many times in other hacks. Flashman: There was some dissonance at first, until I came to the following ...... Okay, I was wrong. There is an element of "ice" here too, just a bit too much Met. The Flash man boss is interesting because you get hit by its bullets and it stays in place until the Flash man hits you. Item-3 is Rockman 2 UP, but you can still move up against the wall (if there is no wall next to you, it will spawn under your feet) NOTE: Flash has been reduced to a prop in this hack (as it can't be used to defeat any bosses) Wily1: essentially a small puzzle (as you will use some props and weapons) Mecha Dragon's forced scroll is too slow for this hack, it should be able to be faster and the boss is very easy to beat. Wily2: This level could be a continuation level of Air man (as the graphics from that level are used, or it could be a coincidence), this level also uses props, just not as much content. Pico Pico-Kun: Some of the graphics are wrong, but that's fine, nothing more to say except that it's faster and the standby time is shorter... Wily3: The BGM is still a bit hard to hear, but it goes well together, and I feel like the Wily stage of this hack will use Item-3 it ......... I'm really impressed Guts Tank: This is probably the hardest Wily boss to beat, the platform on top of it is impossible to stand on, so you have to use Metal to beat it. (It's an innovation though... :/ ) Wily4: This BGM is supposed to be one of the best in Ninja Dragon Sword Art 2, I'm pretty sure StalkerMaestro is a fan of Ninja Dragon Sword Art (supposedly) Boobeam Trap: They're a bit tricky to place, but it's okay, but it's hard to dodge because the pause bug was fixed. Wily 5: A moderate level. Wily 2-go: emm, a bit too easy (and you can beat it using Rock Buster) Wily6: longer flow and a few puzzle elements too. Alien: the BGM match is more subtle and the boss is only a little harder than Wily 2-go, just take your time when beating it. The graphics and gameplay are still good, but I personally feel that some areas are a little less difficult, and the BGM is mixed, and there are only three "new" tracks (perhaps because there are no tools for this, but I wouldn't mind too much). My overall assessment of the hack is: "not a bad fast-paced hack."
| Rockman 2: StalkerMaestro vs The Rockmen - not bad | diablo666 | 2022-09-10 | Version 1.0 |
I passed the hack in 1:33:15 (because my emulator has a time counter installed) and I can say the following: I liked all the stages in the game - both from the side of the Level Design and from the graphic part. Really well thought out and interesting. New mechanics - we write down the advantages of the hack. More or less interesting abilities from bosses are on the plus side of the hack. The music has gone to the cons. I came across OST that hurt my ears. Also in the negative was the fact that some OST - were used in other hacks. I'll write it down in neutral: Bosses. There are good ones, there are simple ones, there are boring ones, there are bad ones.
To sum up, I liked the hack (even despite the flaws). It really feels like hard work. Of course, it's a little worse than Rockman5 Metropolis, but this one will be able to hook someone. I can recommend it. But as I said above: "Not bad"
