Hack description

This hack revises and streamlines the COMMAND Menu to make it function more like in later games.

The 'STAIRS' menu item was removed and the game was updated to automatically use stairs as soon as they are walked on.

The 'TAKE' menu item was removed and its function was rolled into 'SEARCH'. When used on Chests, 'SEARCH' now automatically takes the contents.

(A minor text string was also edited to help the SEARCH dialog transition into the TAKE dialog.)

Updated Version 1.1:

Re-wrote Stair-checking section to streamline it and isolate it from the Take section.

Made 2 minor map edits to prevent forced automatic stair usage.

I use this with the double exp/gold hack and it makes the game a whole lot more tolerable. Thank you for fixing such a quirky mechanism, needing a menu command just to go up/down some stairs was really silly.

This hack, added to the 2x exp hack, create a very playable game for the modern day. The need to use take and stairs as a command weren't the worst bits of this game, but it definitely made the game feel outdated. Now that these commands have been streamlined, Dragon Warrior is that much more playable. This hack and the 2x exp hack are compatible, and I'll likely never play this game again without them.

A very nice QoL hack that brings it inline with the other entries of the series. I've always wanted something like this for DQ/W 1, surprised it wasn't done sooner, but am very thankful to Pterias for making it a reality.
