Hack description

This patch is designed to to drastically change AI for computer controlled opponents in the single player portion
of Mortal Kombat II.

How it works:
By selecting a difficulty setting in the options menu,
the AI adjusts itself depending on which difficulty level was selected.

All difficulties are now heavily toned down compared to the retail release in terms of AI Difficulty
and will be less likely to read inputs and counter you.

Difficulty does not scale with this patch.

Patching Instructions can be found in the readme.

Reviews

It is finally possible to enjoy this gamecireza2023-08-24Version 1.0

It is 2023 and it is the first time I had fun playing Mortal Kombat II against the CPU. What else can I say? If you want to enjoy a couple arcade playthroughs, this hack is a must play.

Thanks to the creator, and hopefully something can be done about UMK3 on Genesis as well!

Great differenceMemorex2023-01-02Version 1.0

Since I have not been playing for that many hours, it's tricky to do an indepth review, but there is a very notable difference from the vanilla AI! To be able to use uppercuts and sweeps without the cheap countering made revisiting MK2 again really enjoyable!

I played through the game with Sub-zero and then Scorpion. With Sub-Zero I was never able to freeze the opponent, they would duck under the ice beam no matter, even if they were getting up from a knockdown. Only when I reached Kintaro I managed to freeze him.

Same with Scorpions spear throw, the CPU managed to duck under it every single time.

Much recommended patch anyhow, thanks for putting it together!

Any hope for a 32X version in the future? :)

A very much appreciated fix for MK fansyerboydrew2022-12-13Version 1.0

This is a fix for one of the biggest problems that keep players from replaying these old school classics. Wish this patch was available for the arcade versions as well. Thanks so much for the fix, and please do this again for MK3 Ultimate / Hacked Ultimate MK3

Cheapness just took a fatality!Red Soul2022-12-13Version 1.0

Ah yes, 16-bit fighting game cheapness, the common denominator of their lot. I guess developers were really keen on "bringing the arcade experience home", especially the bad parts, like the quarter munching AI.

Midway/Acclaim were pretty infamous about it (looking at you, NBA JAM) and this one is no different. Input reading levels that could make even Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo blush tell of a game that ends up being fun more for the ridiculous cheap tactics you end up discovering.

However, BillyTimeGames once again manages to put the AI back in its place by removing several of its unfair tools, creating a much more balanced experience that can actually be enjoyed.

Again, it's honestly a wonderful and necessary patch.
