Hack description

Wily Wars: Weapon Master is a hack for Mega Man: The Wily Wars that replaces the redundant functionality of the "window" button (A by default) with the ability to switch between any weapon in the game, regardless of progression or game mode. This means you can take weapons out of their native games and play through Mega Man 2 with weapons from Mega Man 1 and 3, for instance.

To use this feature, hold the window button and use Up and Down on the D-Pad to change your current weapon. The game is paused during this to make choosing between so many weapons easier in crucial moments.

By itself this hack does not have other improvements such as region unlock, buster speed etc. but it can be applied on top of such patches without issue.

Notes:

-The weapon switch works even if your bullets are still on-screen. The only exception is Time Stopper which can't be switched if in use.

-To prevent crashes, you will be limited to only MM1 weapons during the Copy Robot fight in MM1 Wily Stage 2.

This is a dream come true!!Crazyjoe762023-04-30Version 1.0

This is without a shadow of a doubt the best Mega Man hack I have ever played!! To have every weapon and item at your disposal no matter what Mega Man game you are playing opens possibilities never dreamed of! Ever since encountering Doc Robot in Mega Man 3 I have always wanted to use Mega Man 2 weapons in Mega Man 3. Thanks to you now I can. You have made my dream come true!!

Very cool code to play around!insectduel2022-12-20Version 1.0

I'm really happy the author has the time to create a code where you use all of the weapons and play it on any game before the Wily Tower without the use of the cheat debuggers. Time to show whose boss by using Mega Man 1 weapons against the Mega Man 2 bosses.

You know something?  This is something I've been wanting in a Rockman Mega World ROM hack for many years.  Not only it is a nice, easy way to switch weapons on the fly, but it also allows access to the entire collection across all three games without using messy codes that might cause each game to malfunction!

I've found that this works exactly as promised.  Switching weapons is relatively easy and pretty painless, and hitting the Weapon button even clears all player projectiles off the screen. This means that weapons like Hyper Bomb, Crash Bomber, and even Time Stopper can be interrupted, if the need arises. Very nice!

Despite the file information specifying the European release of the game, as far as I can tell, this actually works with every regional version of the game. This is because it modifies some common code among every version of the game. This also means that it works with any hack that doesn't rely on the empty space ($1FFBA0 onward) of the ROM!  Curiously, it also works with the Retro-Bit modification – which does use the empty space for some additional code.  Pretty cool!

It's not all good news, though. In testing, I have found a few noteworthy bugs:

  • While the player is locked in place while holding the Weapon Switch button... Left, Right, and Jump still make the player attempt to move.
  • Switching weapons when the "Ready" text disappears at the start of a level results in a soft-lock where the player never touches the ground.
  • Switching weapons during room transitions or boss introductions will sometimes cause the player to move out of bounds. (This happened to me on Wily Factory 2 of Rockman before the Cutman re-fight.)
  • Switching weapons while charging Atomic Fire will lock the player's outline color to white until Atomic Fire is used again.
  • Switching weapons using Up works fine in Wily Factory 2 of Rockman, but switching weapons using Down doesn't. (This is due to how the anti-crash feature with Copy Rockman was implemented.)
  • Time Stopper is still usable in Wily Castle 6 of Rockman 3, causing the final boss to glitch in various ways and become somewhat unplayable.

I'd also like to mention that switching between the weapons can be a little confusing as there's no icon indicating which weapon one is switching to.  The player's only clue is in Rockman's palette. Additionally, the Options Menu still says "Window" instead of, say, "Weapon".

Beyond all of these tiny issues, this is a great addition to the game and I highly recommend it!
