| Mega Man World 5 DX - reassembled and improved | diablo666 | 2023-12-17 | Version 1.5.2 |
I'll be brief here. I was playing the original game. It has problems with brakes and strange color patterns. But it doesn't negate the fact that this is the best part on a portable device (and unique) But this project has reassembled the best and fixed the most obvious problems of the original. Plus, for fans, it has been updated to the NCS color palette, which now feels like a full-fledged "Remastered" or "Remake" of the original It's worth a try.
| Beautiful Worlds; Beautiful Solar System | Mother Kojiro | 2023-08-24 | Version 1.5.1 |
This hack is GORGEOUS, but you can tell that from the screenshots. Personally, I really liked the choice of dark, bold colors for the majority of the hack; it looks so beautiful, and there are areas that have an entirely new look, particularly the Wily stages. My personal favorites were the pink used in a lot of Mercury, the dark magenta piles in Neptune, and pretty much all of Jupiter. I also gasped out loud when I entered the space stage, and the ending was the most stunning of all; I might have to use that as a desktop background. The description isn't lying, either; the final battle really wowed me. There were also a few subtle touches, like the Deep Digger blocks being reworked. Weapon colors were implemented, and also look great, and the menu, now in black with bright outlines for the crystals is absolutely stunning. The only thing that looks a little off is the enemies; a lot of them have limited color palettes, which really stick out because the backgrounds look so good. Definitely give this one a try!
| This quickly became one of my favorite Mega Man games | Supergamerguy | 2023-04-08 | Version 1.5.1 |
It's hard to put into words how much a Game Boy colorization hack influenced my opinion of this game. Before playing this hack, I viewed Mega Man V (GB) as a nice little sendoff to the Game Boy Mega Man saga, with a few unique elements that made my playthrough novel. I had little intention of returning to this title, believing that any of the mainline Classic games were more deserving of a replay. *After* playing this hack, I can't believe just how wrong I was. This project truly brings this oft-overlooked *gem* of a game back to life in spectacular fashion. I adore every single color choice made in this hack; yes, *every single one*. The Stardroids are animated just like their official artwork, and the enemies and hazards are colored in fitting shades of blue, red, pink, etc. My favorite part of this project were the changes made to the level design palettes, which now better represent the eerie, mechanical nature of the "extraterrestrial" invaders. To top it all off, the newly-colored cutscenes and character portraits make this a more cinematic experience than I ever thought possible on the Game Boy Color! I want to thank the Mega Man V DX team for allowing my to experience this underdog title in a whole new light. It's undoubtably worth a playthrough for veterans and newcomers alike, as well as many more playthroughs in the future!
| Like a new game | hypercoyote | 2023-01-31 | Version 1.0 |
This plays like a brand new game. Love the colorization, I can tell this took a lot of care of love to make. Game is super responsive, I love it so much, thank you!
| A wonderful hack that I would love to see applied to the other entries | Scposteel | 2023-01-22 | Version 1.0 |
This is an absolutely brilliant hack, that breathes new life into the final entry of the GB Mega Man Games. The colors are stellar, and it looks like a whole new game. When the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for GBA was originally announced with Color Updates (Also known as Mega Man Mania) this was what I envisioned. All I have to say is great job, this is amazing.
| Major Issues to be Addressed | kneethepee | 2023-01-14 | Version 1.0 |
I hate to be negative but two things ruin the experience for me. As an avid Gameboy Mega Man fan, I'm very used to the way these games play and feel. The vital thing I'm talking about is a boss flickering upon taking damage. This really messes with my understanding of when a boss is vulnerable or not. Even in the NES games, which this aspires to be like, there is a damage animation that stays on the bosses and makes them visible as in I-Frame mode. If that animation (which is present here when Mega Man is hit,) is added to bosses, or the flashing when your weapon makes contact with them like in the original Gameboy games is restored. Another issue is that the bosses do not have their shading on the sprites. I don't know if this was a stylistic change for NES accuracy, or some kind of oversight, but the bosses lack a lot of the detail that made their sprites look incredible in the original game. I feel like if these two issues are addressed the game will be the definitive version for most, but as it is now, it looks and feels somehow incomplete with those issues and I will continue to replay and recommend the original.
| A Fantastic Game Boy Color Conversion | Moltz | 2023-01-12 | Version 1.0 |
This hack has one main job: recolor Mega Man World 5 as it if had been always a Game Boy Color/NES game, and you better believe it does a fantastic job with it. Moreover, the removal of slowdown is a huge game changer and it does wonders to improve the experience. If you've been interested in trying out Mega Man World 5 but were never fully convinced about it, then give this patch a shot. In my opinion, it gives you the best and most definitive way to play this old classic.
| Fans did what Capcom (sadly) couldn't! | Tsukiyomaru0 | 2023-01-04 | Version 1.0 |
Remember back when Mega Man GB Anniversary (AKA Mega Man Mania) got cancelled? It was real sad, because we missed out on the chance of seeing Mega Man World 5 getting a colorization beyond what Super Game Boy did... But now, thanks to the efforts of dedicated fans, we got it! And not just that, it got its slowdown greatly reduced (if not outright removed), custom weapon icons, some backgrounds got a nice touch up, and even attack animations saw an improvement, and the action feels fast. NES Fast, almost. It's not all perfect, however, there's a few things that gets a bit in the way:
Those issues aside, didn't see anything worth documenting as an issue or bug. If there's anything I'd like to see done is the ability to switch weapons on the fly with Select, and a quicker pause/unpause transition if possible. Played on VisualBoyAdvance 1.8.0b Version 3 (last official nightly build of VBA ever released)
| An absolutely stunning remaster of Mega Man World 5! | ryvhr | 2023-01-01 | Version 1.0 |
When I was little, there was going to be a color remaster of the Mega Man World games called Mega Man Mania. Here are the only known screenshots that exist from it: https://twitter.com/protodude/status/998633862795288577?lang=en I always held out hope for it, for Mega Man World 5 specifically. It was the most unique of them, as the Stardroids are featured in no other game. Their weapons, their stages, themselves, everything is unique. The Mega Arm was also an incredibly fun addition. Much to many people's disappointment, it never came out. I was always left wondering what could've been. This ROM hack is exactly that. An absolutely gorgeous remaster of the game I always looked forward to playing in full color. Best of all, it fixes some engine faults such as the slowdown. It was so much fun to play through this in full color. For me, it was like living a childhood dream, playing the game that never came out. If you liked the original, you will love this ROM hack. Absolutely nothing is changed in a negative way here. The ROM hack makes the game look wonderful, and leaves the core gameplay absolutely vanilla.
| Literally THE best DX rom hack ever made so far | atpstudios | 2022-12-31 | Version 1.0 |
I have played and seen every single colorized Gameboy rom hack so far and THIS one is the absolute best out of everything so far, this is up there with the top quality DX hacks like Super Mario Land 1 and 2 DX, but for this one in particular it seems like there's a bit more detail and color going on here. It quite literally transforms the game into what I always imagined it to look like in color! Thank you guys so much for doing this and choosing hands down the best Mega Man on the gameboy! P.S. Anyone reading this review wondering why 5 is the first and only DX hack so far is because 5 is the best one of the bunch, IMO the others aren't worth playing, 5 and Wilys Revenge are the only unique "new" games out of all the other Mega Man Gameboy games.
| Absolutely must have. | hmsong | 2022-12-28 | Version 1.0 |
What can I say? It's amazing how much adding color can change the experience. Although MMV isn't anywhere near my "favorite MM games" list, this hack still makes this game SO much better. And it's not just the sprites - the background is incredibly beautiful. Some people said that there were lags in some areas, but I think the original game also had the lags in those same areas, so that's not the fault of the hack. So no minus point for that. Use this.
| Simply amazing. Go for Mega Man World 1-4! | ifightdragons | 2022-12-27 | Version 1.0 |
It's almost hard to believe the level of detail gone into this. Not only on the coloring, but the optimization and removal of lag as well. Makes you wish that the same team would give the same treatment to Mega Man World 1-4. (There are other projects out there trying to do this to Mega Man 1-4, but it doesn't look nearly as refined and professional). Play it, it's like a brand new game.
| Perfect | wabbajackw | 2022-12-27 | Version 1.0 |
Nothing more to say except Perfect! Enhance the game as never before in full color. A pleasure to discover this title on original hardware. Thank you!
| Wonderful, though a bit dark in places | cschifani | 2022-12-27 | Version 1.0 |
This patch takes the final GB Mega Man game, which famously features an original story and robot masters, and makes it into a full Gameboy Color game. The color choices are spot on, lovely, and really bring the game to life. I do agree with those who say that the game is a bit dark in places, even though I played on an emulator. Brightening some of the colors, especially the oranges, greens, and pinks, could make the hack shine even more. What we were given is still awesome as is, and it's clear this was an absolute labor of love for the authors. Whether you've played this gem before or not, give this hack a go, as it's worth every second. Highly recommended!
| Color is life | Red Soul | 2022-12-27 | Version 1.0 |
Even in the normal day to day lexicon of our lives, we use an abundance of terms related to colors, hues and tones to describe emotions, situations, people, things... Games are no different, and, in some cases, such as this, the color quite literally brings a whole new dimension of beauty to a game. We take this privilege of seeing colorful, vibrant games everywhere for granted, no matter the generation, but it is such a terrible shame when color isn't there! Mega Man World 5 (I personally refuse to go with Capcom's lazy convention of just slapping roman numerals pointlessly to either mainline console releases or portable spinoffs, considering the confusion it can cause) is my favorite entry in the Gameboy's subseries of Mega Man games for having a wholly original theme, great music and some cool boss designs in the Stardroids. However, much like its portable brethren, it lacks proper color (SGB enhancement doesn't count, let's be honest here), and is thus rather flat presentation wise. This, however, thanks to this wonderful patch, is no longer the case! a true labor of love that is indescribably well done and must simply be experienced to be believed. The coloring work is so well done that this game now looks well on par with the Blue Bomber's NES entries, and then some. Now that you took the time to read this rantastic and overlong review of mine, go ahead and grab the patch! you won't be disappointed.
| The colors, Duke, the colors! | Gi Nattak | 2022-12-27 | Version 1.0 |
An expertly made hack that brings one of the best yet unpopular Mega Man titles into a whole new world filled with vibrant colors! I feel like I'm really seeing this game for the first time, how the original developers wished they could've made it; it's beautiful. This hack promises full colorization, and from what I've experienced thus far it certainly lives up to that and delivers on a professional level. Nuff said!
| top knotch DX-ification, a must add to any rom hack collection | nerb | 2022-12-26 | Version 1.0 |
Very polished. Looks and feels absolutely amazing. Color choices are on point! Amazing job and thank you so much for sharing this with the world!
| Makes a hidden gem accessible once again! | tolaris | 2022-12-25 | Version 1.0 |
This hack is outstanding! Brings Mega Man V into full colour, fixing the bugs and making it accessible to modern players. Feels much like a NES Mega Man (although a bit different owing to the size of the original DMG screen). The author worked hard to get this out for Christmas 2022. Thanks for the surprise gift!
| Christmas comes early | hdofu | 2022-12-25 | Version 1.0 |
This rom hack has been in production a while now and had hinted for a bit it might be out for Christmas, most times these kinds of promises never deliver but here we have this drop and it doesn't disappoint. An easy reccomend.
| Rock this Color | Haruyuki Hyo | 2022-12-25 | Version 1.0 |
It's a pleasant surprise to see more GameBoy games with the DX treatment, Without a doubt, the improvement on the framerate and the menu are welcome, the only thing I could say that is strange is that sometimes Megaman's face turns red when receiving damage, as well as that in the stunned state the game slows down a bit, it is rare but nothing that harms the experience. Definitely a great Christmas present.
| Absolutely stellar work for one of the best! | P41R47 | 2022-12-25 | Version 1.0 |
Megaman World 5 was a hidden gem until now. Thanks to Kensuyjin33 and marc_max we can play this master work in full color and without any kind of slowdown and almost no sprite flickering at all. Now this brings the best Game Boy Megaman into a completely new dimension. I played it from start to finish without any problem at all. And i am glad that all the work and effort put on this hack show it rewards. Thanks guys for making this possible! The best christmas present for all Megaman fans!
| Simply Amazing | BlairBear86 | 2022-12-25 | Version 1.0 |
Every time I see a new Game Boy colorization hack, I wished Mega Man V would get the same treatment, and today my wish finally came true :) the colorization in this hack is perfection, it's so well done and gorgeous to look at. I grew up with this game and it was the first Mega Man game I ever completed. To see it in full color along with the additional improvements is amazing. This is a must for all Mega Man fans.
| The Definitive Mega Man World V Experience | Swansong | 2022-12-25 | Version 1.0 |
I just replayed the whole game through with this patch, and let me tell you, it was a delightful experience. It was practically Mega Man 5.5 (I feel like this game is a better sendoff to the 8-bit era than Mega Man 6 anyways). The coloring was fantastic all throughout, and though some more monochrome sprites occasionally appear, the overall experience is absolutely incredible and brings life to this game. I would like to mention a glitch I encountered though: on the final boss, if you land the final blow four layers deep, black boxes will appear on both sides of the text boxes during the subsequent conversation. I did also notice occasional flickering on certain sprites that wasn't present in the original game, and the water streams that appear when breaking pipes are no longer transparent, leaving Mega Man obscured as long as he is in the water (this is no big deal though, as it is only one level). Overall, an absolutely fantastic patch that makes the game run so much smoother (lag was prevalent in the vanilla game) and visually in line with the mainline series. Makes a worthwhile game even easier to pitch to fans of the series.
| Full Color Power... | Kamen Rider Zi-O | 2022-12-25 | Version 1.0 |
This is a thing of beauty!! Megaman V aka Rockman World 5 already had a serviceable but iffy color scheme due to being the only entry of the Gameboy Megaman games to have Super Gameboy support, but this hack brings it to full Gameboy Color style รก la Megaman Xtreme 2!! It's impressive, and that's putting it mildly. If you ask me, the folks behind this oughta get with Zynk Oxhyde and bring the DX touch to Roll-chan World 5!! (And maybe to Rockman World 1-4 & Roll-chan World 1-4, too)
