Hack description

This mod removes the background music in Chrono Trigger. Thank you to Pseudoarc from the Jets of Time Chrono Trigger Randomizer Discord server for providing the initial Python script that was used to silence most of the game's music and some of the sound effects. Readmit expanded the script and changed things within it so that it would keep the sound effects and remove all of the music; however, the pendulum sound at the game's title screen could not be kept. This mod is compatible on both emulator and original hardware, and it is also compatible with the Chrono Trigger Randomizer.

Why? Why not? Not really sureNintenja2024-04-21Version 1.0

Chrono Trigger has some of the greatest music every put into a game. If you're looking for a no music play through of chrono trigger I guess this is it though. It does what it says it does. This hack has a specific purpose for certain users and I respect that. If you want to do a no music play through for stream for copyright purposes, this is your best friend.

wonderful hackMan_Who_Pours_Beer2024-02-11Version 1.0

Does exactly what it says on the tin. mutes the background music, and plays only the sound effects. it also works with "some" hacks and translations, but not all unfortunately. it works with Flames of Eternity, and Schala Edition, but does not work with CT+, or Bugfix&Decensoring patch. it's a little hit or miss, but should work with most translations.

I don't think the other reviews really "get the point" of what this is trying to accomplish. Some people like to play video games while listening to other things in the background. like Podcasts, YouTube videos, or MP3's of their favorite bands. I know some people that even talk on the telephone, or do conference calls while gaming. This is actually an extremely useful and important hack. Yes, you could mute all audio completely, but then you wouldn't hear the in game Sound Effects.

In 2001 Chrono Trigger was rereleased on PSX with animated cut scenes and unlockable content (requiring multiple playthroughs to get 100% completion), years later it was rereleased on Nintendo DS with tons of extra content, the vanilla SNES game has been ported to multiple systems, then you have the many, MANY different Translations, Re-Localizations, and Hacks. So, fans of the game have potentially played and re-played, and played again to get all 5 endings, maybe hundreds of times. No matter how amazing the Chrono Trigger soundtrack is, after hearing the same songs 200 times anyone is going to eventually get tired of it and want a quiet playthrough. especially so if you are play-testing a new hack, and just want to quickly reach a certain point in the game without distraction.

Does exactly as it's supposed to!Uberdubie2023-05-27Version 1.0

Does EXACTLY what it's supposed to. Nearly all sound effects play without the music, and with no issues. I've been looking for more hacks that do this, and it's greatly appreciated!

I make compilation videos for (mostly) various retro games, put them to my own soundtrack, and post them on various social media sites. Some of them go viral, and make me some nice side income. This is relevant to the review because I VASTLY prefer using footage with the sound effects included, but without music. And for most retro console games out there, most reading this are likely very aware that this isn't all that common - ESPECIALLY in JRPGs.

Are the purposes for this hack pretty niche, and thus most people will have no use for this? Of course. But I see no need to discount a hack's usefulness with that as a justification. Yes, we all know this game has one of the greatest soundtracks out there. But for people like me - this hack is PERFECT, and incredibly useful!

Thank you for sharing it!

Pretty useful.Netmonmatt2023-05-26Version 1.0

Just in case you want to play some music over a stream, make videos with alternate music, that sort of thing. I'm noticing a few of these, and they're nice to have. I wish someone made this for a Super Robot Wars game.

Worthless hackShadowman6212023-05-24Version 1.0

This hack has no reason for existing. Who would want to remove the amazing music from this excellent game? Not to mention that one could easily mute the game if so desired
