Hack description

This is a graphics mod for Game Boy Tetris called "Tetris - 1984". This attempts to reproduce the look of the original version of Tetris which was made for the Electronika 60.

Original Game Boy games technically only have these 4 "colors": white, light grey, dark grey, and black. Therefore this mod just uses white on black instead of the Electronika's traditional green on black display.

Though, interestingly, if you play this mod on the original Game Boy it will appear green on black since that system had a green tint. Also, you can potentially use whatever device you are playing on to change white to green.

----

All game modes, even 2 player, have been edited and tested.

This mod is for the more common 1.1 version of Game Boy Tetris.

The potential is here.FUTURA2023-10-23Version 1.0

Tetris is a great game, especially on the Gameboy.

Its roots are back on the old Electronika systems, which this hacks tries to emulate through the Gameboy game.

It is a good starting effort, However it is a rather fancifully re-skinned version of the Gameboy Tetris. The gameplay is the same, you've got the same menus and music and sound effects that the Gameboy Tetris uses.

While I do recommend it for a nice visual representation, I think this hack has potential to be updated even more, to make it even more like the original game.

A few examples:

  • Having the russian text on the top left/right of the playing field.
  • Having the image of the nxt block be on the left side of the playing field.
  • Removing music.
  • Removing menus, keeping probably just one.
  • Adding sound effects that match more closely to the original.

The potential is here, but I don't feel like it is in it's final form, from what I feel it could be, in my honest opinion.
