Not the remaster I had hoped forSageOfRabites642024-01-27Version 1.0

I just want to preface something before getting into this. I had played the original release of Master of Time. It had its fair share of problems, but I had a great time with it, nonetheless. The original version was very unpolished in many aspects. The story was...not terribly great. Link finds himself in a whole new land where time has stopped. He meets a fairy named Nite, who's looking for a hero to help bring the night back to Abello, because "everyone has gone crazy!" It's a simple concept that could have worked well. Alas, the endings (yes, endings) were not really worth the effort. Still, the journey was a wonderful experience that I had a great time with.

But this isn't about the original version, this is about the new Remaster. So what exactly does the Remaster do to improve the original hack?

Unfortunately, not a lot. The new look for Link is very nice. The menus, except for the item menu, do look much better. Some of the monsters got a new look with a slightly different description from Nite. Some NPCs got a new look. And the title screen has a new logo.

...and that's it.

My issue with this is Master of Time could have used so much more improvement. The original script had a lot of grammar errors and inconsistencies. There were a few places that could have used better hints to know what to do in a situation. Link also has to walk everywhere. You do get warping songs, but a vast majority of your time spent traveling through Abello will be done on foot. There is no Bunny Hood mechanic here to help, either.

The most glaring issue, as of writing this review, is the hack in its current form is unbeatable. The Silver Scale is needed to make progress to the third dungeon in the game. However, the game softlocks and crashes upon completing the diving mini-game. Not even halfway through your journey and a glitch prevents you from continuing.

If you want to try this hack out, just play the original hack for now. It's not as pretty as this one, but it does function much better. I'm hoping this can be changed in the future, but as of now, don't bother with the Remaster.

Update looks good, but...nin10doadict2023-10-19Version 1.0

The new graphics look good in this update. Link has a new model, several textures have changed, and it looks quite nice. Even some enemy names/descriptions have been changed to reflect the new graphics, which is cool. I was pleasantly surprised by the change to Skulltulas, they look even creepier now! There is a bit of inconsistency in certain places with this, though. Dodongos now have a different name, but Baby Dodongos don't, for instance.

The biggest problem with this update is that the graphics for the Silver Scale are bugged. When you try to get the Silver Scale from the diving minigame, the game crashes when trying to load the model for it. I tried it on two different emulators and they both crashed at the same point. I can't recommend the updated version of this hack until this gets fixed.
