Hack description

Overview

Despite being the first Tetris game to land on a Nintendo system, Famicom Tetris is grossly unappreciated due to its unusual control scheme. This romhack updates the game to have the standard controls that players have come to expect from a classic Tetris game.

Features

- Hard drop (A button)—remapped to Up on the D-pad.

- Rotate counterclockwise (Down on D-pad)—remapped to B button.

- Soft drop—newly added; mapped to Down on D-pad.

- Rotate clockwise—newly added; mapped to A button.

- Bonus: exploit patched—holding down any button after a hard drop no longer stalls the game indefinitely.

This romhack fixes this version of Tetris! The original controls were terrible, but I liked the version, the graphics and the movement of the blocks were all very good, again except for the controls. Now with this romhack, it's almost perfect with one problem. You can't rotate while holding down left/right on the d-pad. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is. You need to be able to rotate the pieces while moving them around for optimal play. Hopefully this problem will be fixed in a new version. Excellent job, highly recommended!

This game has always been one I avoided even as a Tetris addict because, frankly the controls were bonkers. This actually finally makes me want to spend some time with this version of the game.

In my life, I've only encountered the BPS version of Tetris on various Milti-Carts, and I agree with the creator of this hack. The control scheme sucked. That is until this guy got hold of it. Just like the description of the hack says, he gave the control scheme a complete overhaul and finally made this version of the classic game Tetris playable.
