Hack description

This is a hack for Digimon World released for the original Playstation, a very interesting and ambitious mix of adventure, pet-raising simulator and some RPG elements.

As it is to be expected from this author, this modification touches a large number of aspects of the original game in an attempt to improve or tweak an equal large amount of elements to make a smoother, more polished and hopefully more varied and fun experience.

Here is a summarized list of the changes:

* Reworking Evolution. This entails a large enough number of changes by itself, from redoing the requirements for each species to avoid overlap that would cause unintentional evolutions, simplifying how the inner working of certain requirements, providing equal number of evolutions to each species, remove the Priority system that could change the resulting evolution even if the player did things right, etc.

* Tweaks to Techs, trying to make all of them have a niche to fill to feel useful, toning down the ones that were absurdly powerful, making weak Finisher Techs more in line with the standard power of each tier of evolution, improving the chances and fairness about learning Techs, changing the moveset of a few species, etc.

* Tweaks to Items, to provide more variety in their effects, make more of them more useful to the player, specially related to food. Items lying around the world have also been extensively changed so there are more than Digishrooms out there. Evolution Items now provide Stat Gains and Lifespan boost when necessary.

* Changes to enemy Digimon. From minor stat tweaks to either fortify or tone down specific ones, to improving the Item drop chances and variety, increasing the amount of Bits obtained by battle to amounts that actually help the player, Boss battles providing guaranteed Item drops where possible, some Tech changes to provide more ways to learn Techs that were a single-time-only chance, etc.

* A big number of changes for other mechanics, such as extending Lifespan, File City's Restaurant, the sleep and eating habits of Digimon to fix things like Gabumon's absurd feeding needs, improving Drimogemon's Item search shop, changes to the Arena to be more fair, expanding Factorial Town's Evolution system, raising the chances for random Boss Digimon to appear to a more sane amounts, and quite a few more.

* Extensive text cleanup where possible. This is not to change the weird feeling of the script which gives it its own weird charm, but to fix the many, many typos, incomplete lines, glitched text, game-breaking textboxes that would hang up the player and others. No way Maeson would touch gems of writing such as "He ruined my research with Evil"!

* Inserting three* unused Digimon species as playable and fully functional, that can be obtained through normal evolution, and have different Techs to differentiate them from the original versions they're copying.

* Several optional patches that can restore or alter a few of the elements changed in this hack, disable the Tech Bonus requirement that could negatively affect evolution, and a collection of extra patches that will change the Starting Digimon when beginning a new game, providing much needed early-game variety.

* A new mechanic has been added as an optional patch, in which a small system is created that gives your Partner Digimon a power boost to an specific Tech based on its current species (for example, as a Palmon your partner will do more damage using Poison Powder) and on the Tech Menu, red numbers will point out to the player which Tech each species empowers.

* An extra patch adds some of the unused areas for Back Dimension, with some Items and enemies to fight too.

Beyond this, for this project Maeson was joined by Vice04 with the goal of squashing a large amount of glitches that were present in the game, for which this game is very infamous. The vast majority of the fixes were made by Vice04 by reworking the code itself, doing a magnificent job, while others required less serious changes.

Provided alongside Maeson's hack, a version of Vice04's fixes plus a few other changes was also added, plus a for-fun patch that makes random opponents appear during the Curling mini game.

A very detailed readme was also added, that not only goes through the changes, but also informs the reader about mechanics of the original game so they don't need other source of information for such elements, some of them rather obscure and not well known. A smaller readme containing basic information for quick checking in the form of lists is also included.

You can also check all the work made by Vice04 regarding the glitches on github: https://github.com/Vicen04/Dw1DataAndPatches

The hack should be applied to an NTSC-US .BIN copy of the game, using PPF-o-Matic.

Note: Hack updated to Version 1.09a. These are all the changes since the initial release:

* All patches were remade with correct ECC and ECD sectors to prevent issues when playing it on specific places.

* Several mistakes fixed, such as incorrect evolution requirements, wrong things on the extra patches, certain items having issues, correcting regressions, etc.

* Fixed a few issues more that the original game had, like the Vending Machines not working correctly under certain situations. Also corrected some evolutionary requirements like those for Ninjamon.

* Added a new optional patch with the new mechanic mentioned above related to each playable species providing a power boost to a Tech.

* Vice04 has expanded the Digimon Chart to show the previously inaccessible Ultimate Digimon Panjyamon, Gigadramon, Metal Etemon and Machinedramon. None of them are necessary to receive the Medal for completing the Chart, that works like usually does.

* The previously unused Royal Tournament in the Arena has been restored, providing the highest difficulty battles, and has its own reward. This tournament is held every 15th of each year.

* The Tournament Schedule has been fixed by Vice04, and now works and looks as it should.

* Added an extra patch in case someone wants to combine this hack with the two "QoL" patches from Digimon World Randomizer, "Fair Bonus Try" and "Unlock Areas".

* Added an extra patch that retools the Hawk Radish into the Reset Radish, providing players a way to make their Partner Digimon reborn without having to wait for its Lifespan to end naturally, or making it die intentionally with the added cost of losing Techs and Tamer Level. This has several uses, like a faster way to fill the Chart, or giving more control to plan ahead for Tournaments in the Arena.

* Vice04 has tweaked part of the sound code, and now the music/background tracks won't restart each time you go to another screen if they play the same one.

* The Drill Tunnel event in which you have to take out dirt has been changed based on feedback. Originally, you had to do it ten times for the tunnel to be open, now it's only five. The Bits and stat gains that the player gains have been doubled now that it only need half the cycles, so nothing is lost. Thanks to Vice04 for finding where the counter exactly was. An optional patch to restore the ten trips is included.

* On previous versions there were added a few patches to make this hack compatible with two features of the Digimon World Randomizer. Since then, Vice04 has made code of his own for these two features. Possibility to still use the "Unlock Areas" is still included as it is different from the one included in this hack, but the Bonus Try one present in this hack is better overall, so the Randomizer version for this one feature is not longer supported.

* Fixed softlocks that could occur on the original game, and a couple of minor tweaks like Machinedramon's animations. Fixed a softlock added by the hack in version 1.08b on the most recent version.

As of 1.08e, alternate xdelta patches haven been added, in case someone has issues applying PPF patches.

Amazing hackmegabloost2024-07-11Version 1.09a

I literally created an account to compliment the effort here. Special mention to the read me file, with very detailed information. Super well done!

Great mod, it just needs one "detail" to be perfect!XNan942024-05-19Version 1.09

Sensational mod, which in addition to correcting several problems in the original version, also brought a new experience for new and old players. The first contact I had with this game was in 2003, and despite several breaks, I always return to this game, which I have finished more than 20 times. For me, as a fan of the game, this mod is incredible, and I thank the modders for their beautiful work! However, if I may make a suggestion, it would be nice to have an optional mod that would leave the Techs with their original status, and also the common digievolutions with the default of the original version, as these two parts for me are perfect in the original and do not need to be changed. . (maybe just the Ice Statue? lol). And a suggestion, a hardcore mod with a Mt Infinity full of ultimate diginons with status 800+ across the map would be beautiful lol anyway, I recommend the mod, congratulations!

A good patch to fix many issues, but other changes too dramatic to capture the game's essenceAnalogman2024-03-15Version 1.09

I made an account explicitly to review this patch and offer my feedback. For perspective, I played Digimon World for the first time when I was 10. For years it dominated much of my free time. I bought the official Prima Strategy guide, the only way to truly play the game pre-Internet, and over time accomplished everything there was to do in the game. I maxed prosperity. I finished the Digi chart. I got every medal even. There is not a game on earth I've explored more fully.

Which is why I both really appreciate what has been done with this hack, and am also disappointed at what has, in my mind, been overdone with this hack.

In an effort to "rebalance" things, evolution requirements and Techs were all wildly changed. This has removed none of the impregnable nature of these requirements, as they're just as obfuscated in-game as they always were, and only served to make every evolution feel incredibly "samsey". Every Champion is 1200/120 in two stats. Every Ultimate is 4000/400 in three stats. Compounded with expanded lifespans and the fun in raising different evolutions has been entirely drained. It was fun to try to get 6000 MP on SkullGreymon. It was fun to need 3000/300 in everything with Monzaemon. The big differences made each mon feel unique and different to train.

Likewise, all of the big flashy endgame techniques no longer feel rewarding to earn. In an effort to make every Technique usable, you no longer get the feeling of a big power spike when you finally learn the ones that were previously only gated by their huge MP costs.

So yes, I'd recommend the patch, but only because of the fixes to the glitches. The original game is still a more enjoyable experience because of its unevenness in design, which is a pretty common phenomenon in game design really.

My recommendation to the creators of this patch would be to create two more optional patches: One that undoes changes to Evolutions, and one that undoes changes to Techniques, so that we can get the original Digimon World experience without the glitches again.

Very cool modShid2024-03-04Version 1.09

I have created an account here for the sole purpose of leaving this review. Digimon world is a game I've played at release all the way back in 2001, ever since then I loved it, yet in 23 years I've never managed to finish it. Tried multiple times but always got burned out.

When I saw this come out I thought I'd give it a try, and for the first time in 23 years I finished the game ( only took about 25 hours ).

This rom hack does bring a lot of much needed QOL / Balance , which makes the game much more enjoyable. And this does provide a way to revert any change that you may not like which is perfect.

Had a lot of fun, thanks!

PS : The only thing I noticed bugging was the patch for the mansion / sanctuary requirement, while it indeed did work for the mansion it actually closed off the sanctuary entirely for any Digimon type ( ppf patch applied ).

An ideal way to revisit the gamemozaicTri2024-02-04Version 1.08e

I found this hack by searching "Digimon World 1 hack" on a search engine, when I remembered this game and wanted to play it again in a new way. I wanted to try if something new happened years after the buzz thanks to Romsstar's efforts. It did, and this hack is it. I'm completely blown away by how tweaking the game like this hack does completely improves the feel of the game.

I was always happy when I found a rare item on the ground in DW, and my curiosity of 'which items will I stumble upon during my playthrough?' was a part of my fun in replaying the game. But finding out that some items are apparently just 1% chance to appear in the original game, they definitely fall into the sub-optimal category in terms of rarity. This hack makes looking for items more fun and I like that.

The evolution changes are fantastic. Optional patches such as the one that removes the tech bonus are great too, and I also quite enjoy the option to have a different starter digimon.

It appears that some wild digimon still drop too low amounts of bits despite being among stronger ones in power. Can't say much about the balance of techs because I'm not the best at balancing in games. The bug fixes done by Vice04 are pretty neat as well. Same area music doesn't stop, which is very impressive and I would never guess it would be possible.

I believe I will continue playing this hack on and off for the upcoming months. Thank you, Maeson and Vice04! This game is very different and it's immersive in a weird but pleasant way, and this hack, in my views, succeeds at making new playthroughs fresh and interesting.

Amazing mod!Dacu2024-01-20Version 1.08e

I've always loved Digimon World, and this hack makes it even better, everything feels way smoother.

  • The addition of new items on the map makes it feel more alive, specially at the beginning, if you've played the game before, it's a nice surprise to see different items hehe
  • The techniques being balanced really adds improvement to the game, now it feels like every technique is at the same level. And the patch of 'special technique for each digimon' is the best of the best. I never used 'Red Inferno' because it wasn't thaat good, and now it felt great to use it with Greymon, it also looks great on him :) And that also improves the Arena, now fights are more interesting, not just the same 3 techniques.
  • About the fights, increasing the amount of bits is a great decision, plus the amount of items, now battles feel more useful and fun. If you need bits you can go to Mt. Infinity and fight some digimon to get easy and fast money, no more mojyamon trick~ It feels good to get so rewarded after fights honestly. Plus learning techniques has become easier now, it felt soo tedious before, but now if you find the correct digimon you'll learn a new technique after a few battles if not the first.
  • Training also feels a lot better, the 'hawk reset' patch makes supercarrot increase +20% of gain on ALL STATS, so instead of moving between supercarrot and hawk raddish you can focus on training and going to the restaurant so the effect doesn't end.
  • I like the long life span change, but I do think that it breaks the game a little, it's easier to reach high stats, and it's useful for the end game grinding (Medals, Arenas, Max Stats) but for the beginning it can be a little broken (Digimons now live to 23 years), you end up with the same first Digimon and almost all the town gathered, with really high stats, maybe 1-2 days less would make it more balanced, or something like, for each 3 Tamer Levels the Digimon gets 1 day more of life span. (Just throwing ideas, I don't know how hard would it be to program that, and I understand it's difficult to balance everything)
  • One thing I would love, as someone else said, is if we could get more stats after every fight. Right now we get +1, it doesn't need to be +10, even if it was +4 I think we would notice some difference after some fights. I'm talking specially about the beginning, fighting is fun, you get items and bits, if you could also get some stats it would make it even more fun. That's my opinion at least ofc.

Sorry if I wrote too much, I really liked this hack so I wanted to share my opinion, thank you so much for your hard work and your love to improve this game, every time I replay Digimon World I will do it with this hack, you guys did a great job!

Very good! It really is a very different experience from the original.THIGSI2023-12-25Version 1.08a

Very good! I wish there was a patch to choose between machinedramon or Myotismon. And talking about the service in the drimogemon's cave On the one hand it's good to reduce the time by 1 day but on the other I don't think it's cool... There are certain details that are the fun of the game and if they take them away they ruin it. When there are these certain changes it is always good Leave a patch for those who want it like the original version. Just like you did with the monocromon store, battle Greymon.

Breathe of Fresh AirPerscitus02023-12-24Version 1.08a

This patch is highly recommended for players who replay Digimon World every once in a while. This feels like a very, very long overdue bug fixing and balancing patch. I am very happy, with most of the decisions made in tweaking the balance, and fixing the glitches. As a matter of fact, I don't think there's much left to do on the front of bug fixing and ironing out glitches.

I might have a couple of suggestions on the front of battle balance tweaks, though. First off, with the new tweaks to all Technique powers being somewhat lower across the board, I have noticed a LOT of coliseum matches lasting longer than usual, often running out the timer, even when I had a Digimon with maxed out stats. I suggest some of the Techniques be made slightly more powerful, not necessarily to vanilla levels, but high enough that this changes.

Secondly, with this new patch, Digimon in the Coliseum that have Techniques that poison, are unreasonably strong opponents to fight. I noticed having trouble with Digimon that would spam Poison Claw and other Poison Techniques, despite them having much less in the way of stats and power, and in some cases, losing to them in matches, despite the clear difference in stats. This makes Poison rather oppressively strong in Arena matches.

Another small issue I have with this patch, is the fact that Machinedramon has swapped animations for two Techniques, his Full Potential has been swapped with his Finisher Technique, which looks jarring. I would suggest that either the animations be restored back to what they were before, or have his original animation for his Finisher Technique be applied to both his Finisher, and Full Potential.

Other than these changes, I would submit that this patch is a very good breath of fresh air for such a good, classic game.

The best way to currently play Digimon WorldZorban2023-12-22Version 1.07

This is the definite way to play Digimon World for both veterans and newcomers. The quality of life changes are fantastic and all the changes to moves and evolution make the game more interesting.

I'm currently on my 6th playthrough of the hack with no signs of stopping. Seriously, stop reading this and download it already.

My only suggestion to the creators would be to cut down the Meramon cave dirt. Currently you need to move dirt 10 times and it's horrible having to do it in every playthrough. I understand that you can simply go do other stuff while waiting for the cave to open but your only other choices that early if you're not new to the game are working through Misty Trees backwards through the fog, or training for days at Green Gym which is about as exciting as moving dirt.

My idea would be to have the player move dirt 5 times instead of 10 and double the stat/bits gained so it equals out to what it currently is.

Maybe this isn't possible. I've got no clue on how the code works for this stuff but the dirt movement is the only tedious mechanic left in the game that this hack doesn't improve on.

Once again amazing work guys. I did initially dislike the increased lifespan -I understand you can patch it to vanilla lifespan but I still wasn't a fan- but the introduction of the Reset Radish is the perfect answer to that.

Edit: The mad lads did the Drill Tunnel dirt change, thanks a lot!

This should motivate a RE PlayConnerbase172023-12-20Version 1.06a

Always been a favorite game of mine but was hesitant to play it again because I thought nostalgia goggles were blinding me from all the bad glitches and pain involved in this game...This hack took care of all of it! Loving the new play through! No issues with anything so far and the quality of life additions and clarity added to the game makes it so nice to play through again!

I applied the randomizer fix the author explains in his Readme and the bonus try works as it should now. BTW you have to find the Randomizer yourself with a quick search. I like how much love the game is being given now! I do wish this was somehow able to play in Spanish as I'm currently letting my kid replay old video games in Spanish so she can learn how to read better. That, I'm sure, is a huge longshot lol, but there currently exists a PSP ISO version that's fully translated made by: Dark_Kudoh, Loud Kuyuki & uzuhenry on git, So there's maybe a possibility!

Wait... this game is fun!?wakkoswami2023-12-18Version 1.07

Digimon World was a game that lured in plenty of 90's kids and left most of us with the same story to tell. Hours were spent in the training grounds just to end up with unruly little poop monsters incapable of making any real progress. Any of the enemies just outside town were strong enough to go head-to-head with you, and you'd spend more money trying to get through fights than you could ever hope to earn back, so stocking up on healing items was a no-go.

Even if you did manage to somehow earn some cash, just finding the right Digimon to recruit to open up the shop was an endeavor in itself. You could go above and beyond to try and train a real champion, and if lucky enough, end up with something besides a Numemon or Sukemon. But by the time you had said mon trained up and ready to explore, it would already be at the end of its short life, and you were back to square one. At this point most, like me, gave up on the game and shelved it to go and play something that didn't seem like it was going out of its way to torture you... like one of those Pokémon games you've probably heard of.

As fate would have it, about a month ago I was feeling nostalgic for my childhood as many 30+ year olds do and decided to take my revenge on this game just before this hack was released. Although I never made any real progress back in the day, there was still something about Digimon World that was intriguing enough to get me to come back to try and beat it and see all that it had to offer.

I didn't plan out anything meticulously, but armed with the knowledge the guides on GameFAQs had to offer, I was able to break the game and get through it pretty easily. I used my starter Gabumon to explore outside the town and recruit as many Digimon as I could. Unsurprisingly, he ended up dying, but turned into the ghostly Bakemon who was actually pretty useful and helped me to get a bit further before he kicked the bucket for good. I saved up all the consumable chip items I found that permanently increase a Digimon's stats and used them all on my freshly reborn monster to shoot for an ultimate Digimon that could get me through the rest of the game.

I wasn't picky and ended up with a Whamon that I would later evolve into a MegaSeadramon. Even though I didn't do much training, I knew that time was short, and I went exploring the rest of the map as fast as I could. After a point, I used a recruitment guide to find all the tricky Digimon that I didn't have time to figure out how to recruit. I looked up the strongest tech I could learn, since the ones I had weren't getting the job done, and just fought the same battle and reset until I got the overpowered Ice Statue move.

Even being strong and well armed, I avoided every battle I could since there was nothing good to be gained from them. Sometimes I would just reset to get around a fight that I didn't want to deal with. I used a built-in trading exploit to get rich so I didn't have to worry about money and stocked up on enough healing items to get me through any fight. Finally, I recruited enough Digimon to the city to open up the final dungeon and cleared the game just before my loyal MegaSeadramon got old enough to bite the dust and go to digital heaven.

Though it might not sound like it, I did have fun beating the game in a weird way. Most games that come out these days always make sure players can get through them to avoid bad reviews, but these older ones have something special about them where they just don't give a flying fuck whether you beat the game, or even whether you actually have fun or not. You get presented with a world and a bunch of (often) poorly explained systems and have to spend enough time to learn and adapt or give up and lose.

After beating it, I looked the game up on here and thought it was such a shame that no one had released any hacks for it besides the jukebox fix. I felt there was so much potential to refine the game into something more fun just by making some minor tweaks, and it would be so much better off for it.

What if your Digimon could live a bit longer, and what if the requirements for evolution were more obvious to the player? What if the techniques could be tweaked to be easier to learn and made so more than just a handful of them were actually worth using? What if you could get more useful items from fighting and exploring the world besides digishrooms and low level heals? What if you could earn enough money from battles to have them actually be worth the time and make it so you aren't constantly broke? What if the bugs/glitches and poor translation could be cleaned up?

What if you could just play the game and have fun without having to feel like you're mining through rock to get to the gold waiting underneath the surface? What if there was a hack that did all of the above and more?

Well, I didn't have to wait long, Digimon World Maeson has come to transform this game from a giant heap of wasted potential into one of my favorite games in the PS1 library. I just completed a 100% run that recruited all the Digimon and had a blast doing it. This hack does everything it sets out to do and does it well. The only instance I seemed to find of something not working right was a Smelly Ring I got not being able to evolve my Agumon/Gabumon into a Numemon for the one part of the game where you actually need one. It's not much of an issue with how easy it is to get one anyway, though.

The extra options that the hack offers and being able to choose a version with just the bugs/glitches fixed is the icing on the cake. Depending on how much info you want going in, you can check out the very detailed readme and pair it with a recruitment guide to know basically everything there is to know about the game and get all that you want from it. This is one of those must-have mods where I wouldn't even recommend that someone try to play the base game without it. It's an improvement in every way and highly recommended. Even if you don't have nostalgia for the Digimon series, you can check this one out if you're looking for a solid monster-raising game on the PS1 system.

If Maeson ever comes back to work on this, and if they were possible to be changed, I still think some more improvements could be made:

The Monochromon recruitment shop mini-game is absolutely godawful and any change to it would be welcome. For a game where time is so precious, the few occasions where you have to do something right on the hour are pretty strict, and it would be nice if these events could give you a little more leeway. And while the worst aspect of this game can never be fixed, those constant load screens between area transitions, it would be cool if the music carried over in areas where the same song is used instead of starting from the beginning every time. The soundtrack is pretty good, after all.

This ended up being kind of a review for the game itself as well as a review for the mod, but I thought my experiences could help others to decide if this is something that they'd like to play. And I've gotten enough hours of fun out of it already to warrant a good review. :)

Update - They've fixed the audio so that music keeps playing between load screens and the Monochromon mini-game as well though I haven't had a chance to try it. Having it so the music doesn't constantly restart does wonders for making the loading more bearable and you can actually hear the entirety of some songs now that you wouldn't otherwise, it's bizarre that it wasn't this way to begin with since it's such a massive improvement.

TL;DR - This hack is awesome, play it!

The ONLY way to play Digimon Worldblaide2023-12-07Version 1.06

I don't normaly write reviews, however I felt like I had to give positive feedback to this incredible mod.

I grew up with this game and can still remember using gameshark codes as a kid to get all the digivolution items as I found it way to difficult to get the digimon I wanted, years later I came back to the game and still found it incredibly hard to get the digimon I wanted, even following guides online exactly, I definately didn't enjoy it as much as I did as a kid and found it quite tedious so gave up on it quite early on.

Skip to 2023, I was browsing for the latest romhacks and came across Digimon World Maeson, I was incredibly intrigued as it had been a very long time since I played it, so I decided to give it a go and I am so glad I did!

All I can say is I now enjoy Digimon World as much as I did when I was a kid, the quality of life fixes are incredible and can honestly say that if a Remaster of this game was ever made, the creators should definately use Digimon World Maeson as inspiration, I feel that there is no need to play the original version of this game anymore and Digimon World Maeson should be standard!

There are two things however, that I would love to see implemented, if even possible.

  • I absolutely love the extended lifespan, when you finally get your perfect Digimon, you don't have to worry about it dying suddenly, however if you get to a point where you want to try a new Digimon, you're stuck for a very long time until you get to try a new digimon, would there be anyway to trigger the moment where you pick an egg at any point, so if you're tired of your current digimon or you've made a mistake, you have a quick option of getting a new chance with a brand new Digimon, I definately don't have the heart to kill my own digimon and wouldn't want to play this mod without the extended lifespan as I think it's such an incredible feature.
  • I find that training in the gym is still a little Tedious, I would love it if fighting random digimon gave you more stat increases or a best just certain digimon, nothing overkill, perhaps certain enemies give you HP+50, Off+50 for beating them, so you wouldn't have to rely on the gym too much and it could almost be like a level up feature, I actually enjoy battling all the enemies on the map, so it would be amazing to just focus on battling and only rarely have to use the gym. Or perhaps at certain days the gym is boosted and you get double the rewards and also like another reviewer has mentioned it would be great it the Bonus try glitch was fixed :)

Thank you so much for making this mod and making me love it once more just as I did as a kid :)

A Great patch which fixes and improves the aspects of the gameMASTERSOT2023-11-21Version 1.05a

As a huge fan of this particular game I was honestly impressed with how well done with this patch, with my favorite being how we can finally get access to locked evolutions like Gigadramon who before the only way to get them was only through Cheat or Glitch.

Also, a thank you to the ability offered by the Extra Patch as beyond the ability to select the Starteds which I find interesting but also the ability to undo some changes such as Greymons Bosss fight Stats and Bits (as it will surely be a pleasant facility for those who are new to this game but for people like me who are already familiar with this game quite well I don't think they will like it that much)

If I had to say that I have any complaint it would only be that unfortunately Myotismon or WereGarurumon were not added as possible evolutions but I guess as that one wasn't even an option in the first place and the other was incomplete (as it caused the game to freeze) then I guess I'm asking too much.

Thanks again for this amazing hack patch.

Amazing Hackmcbeamy2023-11-11Version 1.04

I've really enjoyed most of the changes to the vanilla game and definitely recommend giving this hack a try for both veterans of the game and newbies alike.

My only complaint is that I have been unable to get the optional extra patch with the original lifespans working. The increase to lifespan is not a feature that I was interested in.

I have attempted to apply the patch multiple times using PPF-o-matic and although it claims the patch application was successful, my Champions are still living to 20.

EDIT: Above issue with the optional lifespan patch seems to have been addressed in the recent update but I have yet to confirm it is now working as intended.

However, since I've continued playing I've ran into a new issue with getting evolution items to work. I am attempting to evolve my Palmon to Numemon with the Smelly Ring but it is consistently rejecting the item (even with scolding). I then tested with other Champion evolution items that I have acquired and my Palmon is rejecting them all - I am not sure why this is the case.

Amazing for New and Old Players!Lazites2023-11-03Version 1.04

I'm a huge fan of Digimon World 1. Always struggled as a child due to the Official Prima Guide being full of incorrect information. Fast forward 15 years, I really studied hard and started to understand this game front to back.

But people shouldn't need to take a college course to understand this game. This mod is amazing and much more stream lined. No longer do you need to use a calculator to figure out your evolutions.

My favorite part? The optional mods to remove some improvements. I prefer the Greymon boss fight at its original strength as a returning player. For new players, absolutely, he comes out of nowhere and beats you up when you're not expecting it.

My 1 request if this mod keep getting supported: option to restore original bit drop rate. I personally feel like I'm drowning in money and don't need to manage anything anymore.

Thanks for all the hard work!!!

Incredible, definitive way to experience this classicJulfordio2023-09-20Version 1.03

I grew up playing this game, being both a fan of the Digimon anime and monster-raising sims like Monster Rancher, Dragon Seeds, etc. Many an afternoon were lost to this game at friends' houses, as we did our best to avoid getting Numemon while exploring all the nooks and crannies of this exciting world.

But man, even with The Official Prima Strategy Guide, this game was unbearably obtuse and frustrating. Between the evolution mechanics that seem to require divine powers to properly comprehend, to the myriad of weird bugs and crashes, to the incredibly low technique learn rates, it was a miracle for us children to make any actual overworld progress between mons.

That's where this hack comes in. Every mechanic related to evolution is more streamlined in a way that makes sense, so many of the most egregious bugs are fixed, and you can reasonably expect to fill out your learned techniques just by exploring in regions with enemies who use the move, rather than needing to spend entire in-game days grinding out fights until you get one new move (Seriously, low single-digit percentages are criminal in a game where you aren't even guaranteed to be ABLE to learn the move in the first place!).

If the above is all this romhack did, it would still be the definitive version of this game to play, whether for veterans or newcomers. But this romhack goes even a step further in the right direction, rebalancing items to make a lot less "traps" for new players to fall victim to, and then rebalancing attacks to remove the absolutely gross imbalance that was present in the original game. Playing through this game was actually fun, and I was always feeling rewarded and like I had ways to make progress, even as one mon passed away and I began raising the next one.

If you're playing this game, use this hack. It polishes the existing groundwork to an absolute shine, while never losing any of the aspects that made this game so enjoyable as a kid. It is an improvement from start to finish, and in my eyes is the only way someone should be experiencing it in the modern age.
