Mega Man 3: The Battle of Gamma Levels: Good Graphics: Good (palette change) Music: Excellent Enemies: No Change Bosses: No Change Weapons: No Change Castle: Good Difficulty: MEDIUM Comments: If you're looking for a bridge between DurfarC's middling Rise of Wily and superb Voyage, then look no further than Battle of Gamma. On one hand, Battle of Gamma is mostly a well-designed experience with some great enemy placement and tricky platforming sections. On the other hand, it can wobble over into being too punishing, frequently trying to knock you into pits (Spark Man, Needle Man), batter you with enemies (Gemini Doc Robot), or just general rudeness (no E-tanks in the Doc Robot stages, no checkpoint in Wily 2). That, and since there haven't been any adjustments to your armaments and nor the game's numerous bosses (not even a room redesign! [except for Kamegoro Maker of all things]), Battle of Gamma often ping-pongs between being a tight hack with cool music... and a dull vanilla MM3 affair that relies on one too many spikes. It's definitely a good hack, but is still miles away from DurfarC's best.

I didn't think I'd say this, but it's well thought out and implemented. 1. Level Design - in terms of complexity, it has a rating of "AVERAGE", because it really feels that it is more difficult than other hacks. However - it is competently made, and not as it usually happens: "We fall asleep with enemies, thorns and pits - and then we don't care." 2. Palette - does not hurt the eyes, refreshes existing locations 3. Music. Surprisingly, all the music REALLY fits the stages and gives a special atmosphere, which really motivates you to go through this hack to the end I really have nothing to add. The complexity of the hack is "Average", and, as it seems to me, almost everyone can master it. It may seem difficult at first, but the point is that this hack is more complex and requires clearer actions from the player. There are tests here, but they are honest to the player. Therefore, I can recommend this hack for familiarization and passage.
| Music is excellent, but... | LSM | 2022-03-06 | Version 1.0 |
To be honest, Mega Man 3 The Battle of Gamma has a new gimmick for some stages. But unfair. The biggest problem is the level design is too rough. It includes lots of cheap places, spikes, enemies, and pitfalls. Most levels are boring. Switch special weapons over and over again. And you need to focus on sliding out the cheap spike and avoid hitting them in the Sparkman and Doc stage. I appreciate background music is excellent, color is stronger than the original, and using the Mag Fly takes you to pass spikes in Wily 2. But it doesn't cover their disadvantage. You may disagree with my opinion. But that's true.

This hack starts off pretty unassuming with no new music and a very subdued title screen, but once you pick a robot master, you're blasted in the face with awesome music. I picked Shadow Man first, and I was completely blown away; there were bright orange cascades with a blue and dark cyan background. Spark Man's stage looks great in gold with blue lights, and Gemini Man's stage is a wonderful experience with bright red, green, and blue and the music from the Pluto stage from Mega Man 5 on the Game Boy. Wily Stage 1 has a cool section, as seen on this page, with pipes spilling lava everywhere. Perhaps my favorite stage is Wily 4, which is bright red with blue pipes, and further down is an open area with spikes and conveyors over an open pit that makes it likely the most beautiful evil basement I've ever seen. My biggest problem with this hack is the level design; I know that it's supposed to be more challenging, but it's not always a good challenge. A lot of times, you'll have enemies with cheap placements, like cannons lower than you can hit them, sometimes near tiny blocks over pits. The design has a more puzzle-oriented feel to it, which is a neat idea, and there are occasionally interesting concepts, but often, it makes the levels feel a little tedious; it's a mixed blessing. I found the music in Magnet Man and Top Man's stage a little grating, too. Despite my gripes, I'd still recommend experiencing this one at least once.

I played your hack and I always listen the musics from the game. Especially when I playing Spark Man's Stage, the music is cool. I hope there is a midi file of this song. The stages itself, the composing of level layout is pretty good, but very hard for newbie. The colors of the stages itself is kinda good, but there is any graphic not suitable with theme. It's hack just for gamers who love musics and challenges. Overall scores: 9/10
