Hack description

Being an early Game Boy Advance title, Metroid Fusion was designed with a bright, somewhat
blown out color palette in order to be more easily seen on the dark screen. This patch attempts to give the game a darker color palette - in particular, effort was made to place the game in a similar visual universe to its predecessor, Super Metroid, while being largely faithful to the visuals of the original game.

This patch is in no way affiliated with the "Special Edition" hack, or the "Better Suit Colors" hack, both of which make various changes to the game's visuals.

This hack makes few changes to game menus, and none to the game's cinematic cut scenes. It is primarily aimed at changes to the visuals seen in gameplay or using gameplay sprites.

Please apply the patch to:

Metroid Fusion (USA, Australia)

It will not work with other versions of the game. A patch for the EU version of the game may happen in the future.

Known bugs:
- Console in the Habitation Deck flashes in and out existence during its 'orange' cycle. When the console is activated, it ceases to flash. Other, similar consoles are not affected.

Truly beautifulSupergamerguy2023-12-28Version 1.0

This game looks fantastic. The new color palette replaces the excessively colorful palette of the vanilla game with a color palette a few shades darker, though I'm sure that's an oversimplification of the work done here. This makes Fusion's visual atmosphere finally match the story's tone and pacing. The new colors are still vibrant and full of life, just more natural feeling and more fitting for playing Fusion on devices other than the original, non-backlit Game Boy Advance. This hack comes highly recommend for both new players and returning veterans for the best Fusion experience.

Looks great on modern screens!nippleman2023-10-07Version 1.0

Looks great on a modded GBA and an Analogue Pocket. It's still quite a colourful game, but not garish like the original could be at times when played on a more modern backlit screen. The lack of red outlines everywhere is very welcome, too.

The only improvement that comes to mind would be to port these palette changes to the Japanese version, as it would pair nicely with Xenesis' 'Japanese Version to Other Languages' patch, which makes the Japanese Hard difficulty and extra ending images accessible to En/Fr/De/It/Es languages.

Thanks for another great GBA hack, Piggy Chan!
