Hack description

[Overview]

Inspired by Final Fantasy Restored, it is clear that the original spirit of a game is not fully realized due to bugs, hasty deadlines, and other circumstances, and that game experience can be considerably improved by more closely adhering to the original intent of the authors.

This patch of Final Fantasy III aims to alter the game to better realize the intent, as is inferred from the game's code and design decisions.

Major modifications and re-balancing to jobs, attributes, abilities, core mechanics, spell damage, item effects, etc. Each job should feel more unique, a viable choice, and knowing your character's strengths and weaknesses is important.

Changelog:

* 1.0 - 2023-10-24 :: Most changes as described.
* 1.1 - 2023-10-26 :: Modifed the "Wall" spell to have 3 charges.
* 1.2 - 2023-11-03 :: Modified steal/drop tables of enemies throughout the game.
* 1.3 - 2023-11-04 :: Rewrote steal mechanic letting skill access rarer loot.
* 1.4 - 2023-11-12 :: Changed encounter probabilities, allowing rare monsters such as Red Dragon to be seen in a play through.

[Usage]

Reviews

The best version of an amazing gameRed Soul2024-01-31Version 1.4

I have no idea how this great hack doesn't have a single review yet, so here goes.

Just a tiny bit of exposition first: I never finished FF1 before in any of its forms, but then I came across FF Restored and went all the way, it does wonders to modernize and alleviate the issues of the classic, and I don't think I could ever play it again without it.

FF3 Neoclassical has a very similar approach to FF3, my favorite of the NES trilogy, offering a wide and intelligent rebalancing of jobs, progression, gear and other aspects, in such a way that, by late game, parties other than the homogeneous and boring Ninja/Sage setup are not only encouraged, but actually viable.

The 3D Remakes as well as Pixel Remaster both try to address these glaring issues each in their own unique way, but bring with them issues of their own that keep them from feeling like authentic experiences.

Thanks to Neoclassical, you can now have a complete FF3 experience that is both well rooted in its origin as well as being sensible and engaging.

Stop reading and go play!
