Solid Hack, Worth PlayingKevvyLava2024-01-01Version 1.0

Another solid yearly entry for people that prefer the college game to the NFL. Rosters appear to have accurate depth charts for the regular season and the option for different 'hacks' is always a welcome addition. I played with the Vanilla Hacks, and found it to be overall a good challenge. I consider myself to be a 'very good' TSB player. The schedules are set up in such a way that it feels close to the actual schedule, while mixing in relevant teams from other 'divisions.' Most of the teams that had a good season were included, but for whatever reason the author chose teams like UTSA, Tulane, and Memphis. in lieu of conference champions like Boise State, Miami-OH, or Troy (or a super popular team like Colorado). Not a bad idea to have some different teams in the mix, though, so that makes things actually more interesting in a way.

I'm sure that a lot of people complain about one team or another being too strong/weak etc. so I'll keep this complaint to a minimum because I don't know what the intent of the author specifically was on this. Purely from a gameplay balance standpoint, Corum (3rd Team All-American this year, 1st team AA last year) is so obnoxiously strong that even guessing the correct play multiple times in a row, he still runs for 40+ yards somehow. Contrast this with Estime (2nd team AA this year) who plays about right. 1st team AA's Schrader and Gordon are considerably underwhelming in comparison to Corum. After playing a bunch today, they seemingly rank Corum, Gordon, Schrader, Estime (I didn't try Hampton). With those 4 I think that the stats for those top few could be mixed around a bit.

I had trouble finding the correct rom for this (the information provided did not assist me in finding the 'updated 32-team rom') but I was able to find the direct download from a different, well-known site. Another issue is when I scrimmaged MIZZ/OKST (played as both teams) the big logos didn't load correctly when the game started.

I hope it doesn't seem like I'm complaining too much, because the game is very good and definitely scratches the itch.
