Sometimes, the simple things make all the difference, and this is one such case. After promotion, the Light Warriors' sprites, while not bad in their vanilla states always felt somewhat odd and out of place to me, but I could never quite put my finger on what the origin of the problem was. This hack has shown me what the class promotion had been missing all along: consistency! This hack makes it so that the resprited heroes maintain the spirit of what their advanced classes looked like originally, but maintaining the proportions and feel of their pre-promoted counterparts. Much care was put into this, that much is plain to see, and I consider this patch indispensable. I hope it is widely compatible with other patches that modify FF1, as I wouldn't like the prospect of doing a playthrough without this hack in the future.
| A long lost missing piece of a puzzle! | TheGreatGreninja | 2024-01-21 | Version 1.0 |
There was something I always found off about the class promotions sprites for Final Fantasy 1 like they seemed out of place to me, yeah I get that the warriors of light are supposed to look mature and feel stronger, but I would have preferred if they did that while still keeping the chibi style for their battle sprites, which is where Poquelin's Honored Warriors sprite patch comes in, they did an amazing job with these custom class promotion sprites, and they look professional like something Square Enix would have done if they decided to stick with chibi like appearance for the class promotions, even the overworld sprites of this patch look pretty good and feels like long lost missing piece to a puzzle that's been found over 35 years later, I highly recommend playing Final Fantasy 1 with this sprite patch, and it's also compatible with Final Fantasy Restored, so give it a try, Poquelin really outdid themselves with this patch! This patch also goes great with Minor Sprite Touch Ups patch by Bobolicious81 and the Black Belt Makeover patch (also by Poquelin), just make sure you apply the Minor Sprite Touch Ups patch first, then the Honored Warriors patch, and finally the Black Belt Makeover patch, otherwise you'll get messed up sprites, and one more thing to note, after you apply these three patches in this order, the Ninja class (the class promotion of the Thief) will have a couple of stray pixels on his forehead, it's nothing game breaking or glitchy but just a minor sprite error (due to the Minor Sprite Touch Ups patch and this patch going together) but it can very easily be fixed via FFHackster. Make sure to download this patch, you won't regret it!
