Hack description

Replaces the Japanese main character graphics with the mustachioed character from the US and Euro releases of the game.

Can also be used with the translation provided by Stardust Crusaders: https://retrohackers.net/translation-details.php?id=1784/

The Japanese version of this game changes stage layouts among other things, this patch leaves everything other than the main character graphics untouched.

At last, the real Chef Cookie kicks that weird kid out of his restaurant!Mr. Pennington2024-01-11Version 1.1

No longer do you have to choose between 'terrible translation' or 'Creepy Cookie.' Combine this with the excellent translation by Stardust Crusaders for the game this was meant to be, after 32 long years. I think Chef Cookie and Hors d'Oeuvre both being old men just makes the game much more charming, like they're old rival chefs. It's a shame this was the only time they ever squared off. Loved seeing old man Cookie in the end credits sequence! Also appreciated the attention to detail with the US/EU frying pan graphic being present in the egg-catching minigame.

The only remaining thing that could (completely subjectively) make this game any better is if someone was able to either replace the J version's title screen with the US/EU version, or alter the J version's title graphic to read, "Chef Cookie in Panic Restaurant." I've just always thought "Panic Restaurant" was a much better title than "Gourmet World." (I understand that wasn't the aim of this specific patch; just throwing a suggestion out there for anyone who might read this.)

Excellent! Thank you!
