Hack description

Wait... Metroid II with a Super GameBoy border and custom palette?!

Yup, sure is!!

Thanks to "Marc Max" for their AWESOME Super GameBoy injector program, you can now enjoy Samus's second adventure in SGB glory!

The Samus, Chozo and Metroid sprites were edited from the game, the gunship is entirely custom. The background mimics the promo poster/boxart.

I really hope y'all enjoy my first venture into ROM modding. Here's to hoping for more to come in the future!

Not that we really needed it, but...MRDFG Blacha2024-06-06Version 1.0

After marc_max released his SGB Injector tool, I can understand why the entire ROM hacking community bursted with hype. For the first (well, not very first) time ever people could make their own Super Game Boy borders and insert them into original Game Boy games. That certainly includes titles made before Donkey Kong '94, which was the first game to take advantage of this new hardware, and Metroid II is no exception.

However, this game right there is the point: even years before this mania of making Game Boy games SGB Enhanced, there was a way more ambitious idea to make them look better - that is, Game Boy to Game Boy Color hacks, giving these black and white classics a coat of paint they may or may not deserve. And Metroid II was one of the games that underwent this treatment. If we already have the EJRTQ colorization since at least 2019, that many already consider the definitive way to play the game, then what's the reason of releasing a SGB Enhanced hack of the same game? I know there's a border, color palette and all, but if you play it on a Game Boy, nothing changes. It's still a DMG game.

With that said, I still recommend this hack because I will admit, this SGB border is truly an amazing piece of graphic work. If you want to play it, go ahead, but as for me I'd rather play the EJRTQ colorization instead.

(Also, I hope no one decides to create a Super Game Boy mod for both Super Mario Land 1 and 2. That would be the pinnacle of unnecessity.)

Works well, but not the best way to play Metroid 2 on GB.Nintenja2024-04-09Version 1.0

Hack works fine. Plays as you expect Metroid 2 on GB to play. Border looks good. I experienced no bugs, however we have an amazing colorization already by EJRTQ https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4388/ that makes this one pale a little in comparison. However as a first hack it's a good job and worth playing if you played Metroid 2 every other way possible (Including AM2 Remake) and just can't get enough of this game.
