Reviews
| Lacks some identity but is good ol' classic kaizo! | Rexius55 | 2024-07-12 | Version 1.3 |
This review was edited and greatly shortened after the title was changed to Kaizo Mode. A few of the changes to vanilla seem unnecessary. The holy water being nerfed seems strange considering that the point of it is that its direction is only somewhat controlled which is balanced by its power. The no double or triple shot for it seems pretty extreme since if the player gets that and is able to hold onto it throughout the crazy kaizo difficulty, they should be able to use it. Enemies not being able to drop subweapons or the shot multipliers was a great choice for a kaizo hack, and the changes to Trevor and Grant's daggers, Alucard's fireballs and Sypha's magic are very welcome, although the Cross costing more hearts kinda irritated me. Some enemies, like the Axe Knights in 1-1 take ages to kill, and though I don't enjoy that, it makes sense for the kaizo aspect. The four character switching patch made this a uniquely challenging experience to strategize through too! My biggest problem is that I wish there were small unique changes to enemies, like the Whip Skeletons also being able to throw bones or bats being faster than in vanilla, which would've made this experience a whole different ballgame, but seeing bosses in level layouts before a boss room was really funny and enjoyable! Overall, the title change takes away a lot of my previous gripes, and though I generally don't enjoy kaizo hacks, the fact that I was able to get through about 75% of the maze-like levels full of crazy enemy and boss mixes shows that you did go through this yourself and at least made sure it was possible. Give this a try if you're up for the challenge! And hack creator, I can't wait to see more of what you may do! | |||
