| The best OoT romhack to date | mrj760 | 2024-07-14 | Version 1.0.4 |
There are some great romhacks out there but this just shines in an entirely different kind of light. You're here, looking at romhacks, and you found it. This is the one you want. Its setting is unsettling but provides solace at the same time. The music is perfect at every turn. It feels like a small world but you are confronted with unforeseen depth. The characters are a great warmth, yet everyone is enshrouded by a cold vagueness of the environment around them. But the real focus is, of course, the extremely combat heavy gameplay. I would NOT have thought OoT would provide as good of a combat gameplay experience as is showcased in this romhack. It is paramount that you really know how to play this game and are familiar with the enemies/items/systems in order to get anywhere in this mod (meaning it is difficult/demanding even for those who played OoT a million times over the years). I still find it hard to believe I've found a challenging experience in OoT combat, let alone something of this caliber. And once you think you've got it all down just wait til the boss rush :) (Side note, there are difficulty settings btw) Recommended for:

(I doubt the last two describes anyone here looking at OoT hacks) TLDR: Doesn't scratch the puzzle/dungeon itch yet is beyond fantastic and also very surprisingly an awesome combat gameplay experience. I don't know how they made it work but they did so with flying colors.
| A must-play for Zelda fans | Kaypar | 2024-06-13 | Version 1.0.2 |
Not a lot I can say about this hack that hasn't been already summarized by others. This might be the best Zelda hack I've played to date. You should play it! Get it now!!
| Amazing Hack but found a bug.. | BurgerWeeze | 2024-06-13 | Version 1.0.2 |
Love this hack, been playing it for the past three days and it's probably one of the most captivating ROM hacks I've ever played, amazing job! However I did find a bug, when trying to use "the warp" item on real hardware, the game crashes (black screen with a bunch of memory addresses). Not sure if this is a known issue. Using Everdrive64 X7 on a console with expansion pack.
| Great Romhack, Maybe even the best. | Travii | 2024-06-12 | Version 1.0.2 |
Zelda 64 Ultimate Trial is a fantastic Romhack! The world that you are set in feels very alive and the characters are on par with vanilla Ocarina of time characters. The game play loop is really a lot of fun and seeing what new challenges would face you kept a full grasp of my attention throughout the entire game. The new items are really cool, while some of them might not be very useful, they still brought something fresh into the game. There are a couple great new passive upgrades to get too, which is great. Also on top of there being new items there are upgrades to get for a lot of items in the game too. The new enemies give the game a lot of it's unique character. I really enjoyed fighting most of the new enemies, some of them surprised me with how cool their game mechanics are. Some of the animations on the enemies could be improved but overall they are very nice. I would say the difficulty of the game is hard, some people are definitely going to turn down the difficulty to easy. Me personally, I turned the difficulty down. The option to do this is really great, I think this helped me enjoy the Romhack on a more casual level which suited me better. For some reason I had trouble getting through the 50 floor trial, I even died with it on easy mode. But after I beat the 50 trial and went on the the 75 floor trial I beat that one on the first try. With the nature of the randomness in the game I guess it just worked out that way naturally. The updated graphics look really great, and the music in the game is probably one of my favorite things about this game. The music just fits so well and has a very at home feeling to it. Well done to the music composers! So, overall I would give this Romhack an extremely high rating. You can tell that someone put a lot of work into this and it payed off. This Romhack is really polished and deserves the praise it gets, as one of the best Romhacks for Zelda 64 so far! Final Stats: Failures: 25. Waves:54. Enemies:3109. Colosseum:56. Child: 0:07:22. Adult: 0:16:53. Hero: N/A Total Time: 11:45:18. Version 1.0.2
| Incredible Rogue-lite, Best OOT Hack so Far... | kuledawg | 2024-06-06 | Version 1.0.2 |
This ROM hack is an extraordinary technical achievement, polished to a radiant shine. It boasts an array of new assets, fantastic graphics, and a completely custom world that is dark, mysterious, and captivating. The Ocarina of Time combat suits the roguelike environment exceptionally well, with challenging yet fair levels that test your skills. The characters are engaging, offering interesting dialogues that deepen my interest in this desperate and mystical world. I played the whole game on Regular difficulty, which I would suggest for an experienced 3D Zelda fan. Progression is satisfying, and items are unlocked at a fast-enough pace to retain a nice game-flow. New enemies, as well as remixed enemies, fill the game with slightly more diverse combat than the original game. Unlocking new areas and hearing the unique music feels like I'm in an alternate timeline where Nintendo made a spin-off Zelda game for the N64. The dark, pleasing aesthetic kept me immersed, wanting to explore every corner an check on every NPC. NPCs themselves also show a floating "!" above their head which signals a new dialogue (a tremendous time-saver). QoL features like these are not so common amongst the romhacks I've played. I also have to say that there are new "art-accurate" models for characters like Link, Stalfos, and ReDeads, which is a nice touch. Even after completion, I still want to spend hours playing fighting and exploring. I highly recommend this romhack. The intricate design, intriguing atmosphere, and balanced gameplay make it a standout experience that fans of N64 Zelda would enjoy.
| Not quite Rouge-like but Great Gameplay Loop! | Subject N281 | 2024-06-05 | Version 1.0.2 |
If You're familiar with Paper Mario: The Black Pit. You'll have a general understanding what I mean when I say it's very familiar in that Respect. For those that aren't the rest is for you. The Premise is very greatly executed. A very "Cave of Ordeals" Style room by room Enemy spree. No health or resource drops just rupees, simply your skill needed to proceed through the gauntlet. Items and Shops open as time goes on and Weapon Upgrades spicing up how you handle situations. Along side it; an underlying story as more and more NPCs inhabit the main Hub. Manage your gear and learn the optimal way to clear through each chamber to reach the end. The Games overall Mechanics have been altered slightly to remove or tone down easily combat breaking strats (Power Crouch Stab to name one) and optional encounters have been changed for a switch up to OoT players who may feel vanilla difficulty is too easy. And speaking of Difficulty, there is an option to select said difficulty if you feel the experience should be toned up or down. Being a recent product from the teams in the OoT Modding Community, it should come as no surprise that there a good chunk of new assets and models in the game as well as a completely original sound track (save miniboss), very well executed and Very VERY refreshing. Along with a couple new items as well that work well and feel good to use!~ I *Think* I got everything during my playthrough which I think peaked out around 20 hours give or take, and the conclusion was well worth the whole experience, slight frustrations and all. Very well done. Worth your time for a small pick up and play hack. Props to the teams at work and always looking forward to the next one~
