Hack description

This is the sequel to my first hack Maverick Revenge for Mega Man IV. This time it's based on Mega Man V.

I am kinda done with "hacking", since I still haven't learned any ASM. Therefore this hack will never be more finished then it is. You can play to the last Wily stage, however you won't get longer. Also, after the last Proto Man stage it may seem like the game has frozen, but it will go on if you just wait.

Because of that I never learned ASM I couldn't do what I really wanted - to add Maverick instead of robot masters, therefore the confusing name. I understand it may seem weird, but that's the explanation.

What you actually CAN do in this hack, to not confuse anyone:

The soundtrack is also changed.

I tried to push the NES graphic-wise as much as possible, and there I think I did succeed in some ways.

Maverick Revenge II - OKAYDobu_GM2024-02-11Version beta one

Maverick Revenge II

Levels: Okay

Graphics: Good (Nearly Excellent)

Music: Good

Enemies: Okay (few changes)

Bosses: No Change

Weapons: No Change

Castle: Good

Difficulty: EASY-MEDIUM

Comments: Beneath the glitzy exterior, Maverick Revenge II isn't anything special. Its level design falls prey to ye olde mega buster problem: one charge shot usually kills everything in your path. Some enemies have had their health boosted to counter this, but all that really does make Mega Man 5's weak arsenal even worse. Some levels are also incomplete—Charge Man, Star Man, Dark Man 4, and Wily 3 all feel like they're still in beta, along with the incomplete final level. Thankfully the stage design puts up a challenge once you get to Dark Man's castle, and the visuals can be quite impressive at times (although I think the colors can are a bit too strong, like in Wave Man and Crystal Man's stages). Maverick Revenge II is an alright snack, but it definitely needed a bit more time in the oven.

Maverick Revenge II (mm5 hack) - The hack is not complete, BUT...diablo6662022-01-06Version Beta Оne

...this is a decent hack. The levels are well designed, there is no overload of complexity. The graphics are pleasing to the eye, even a little surprising. There are memorable stages: in Gravity man and in Napalm man. Gravity man - I compare it to "a laboratory or a secret control room". Napalm man is a Military base. As well as redesign of the Charge man zone. Although this stage is incomplete, it is quite dangerous.

The hack has somewhere decent music, somewhere suitable, and somewhere terrible or not at all the one that could be. On the main screen of the robomaster selection, it sounds wrong, but not very good. "Fight against the boss" is also about nothing. It could have been better... But the horror I heard in the stage: Gyro man...

Bosses, weaknesses, and abilities have not changed.

There are some comments: if you Select Charge man, you will see a glitch that shows the silhouettes of some robomasters icons in the background. With other bosses - there is no such thing. And the most final level - only rush jet is passed... However, it is completely playable... marvelously

And it's a pleasure to play. Who wants to try it, it will be the right choice. Thank you, I recommend it.

Good hackNess2013-01-03-

Really good level design all the way through. It feels like a real Mega Man game on par with MM5 and 6 (there is only a couple of things I could nitpick about).

It's a bit more challenging than the original game but just enough to make it feel "classic".

The new graphics and music chosen fit in for the most part.

However at the moment it's a beta (as the filename says) so there is a couple of graphical glitches.

Also, Charge Man's and Star Man's stages are only a few screens long.

A huge improvement over the first Maverick Revenge.

I hope the author makes more.

Not Disappointedananda2012-11-02-

I played this hack and I found it 'meh' at first sight. Charge Man and Star Man stages are too short. But I know from the author this hack is not completed enough and still needs more additions.

But, it's my fault for judging before playing throughly. Although the graphics are too 'complex' for standard Mega Man Classic series, the level designs are blowing my mind. They're surely beyond awesome, especially in Dark and Wily stages!

As for the music itself, I like Charge and Dark Man music. But some are similar to Chiko's hacks... Great, but for technical replacement is still meh. However, it's still worth listening.

If you want to learn how to make great level designs, I extremely recommended to try this one!
