| A must play for any X fan | darkzero7222 | 2018-01-06 | Version 3.1 |
This is what we always wanted, fully playable Zero in X3. This hack cannot be more recommended. Join this mod with the "Zero Saber" hack from Docrow and its near flawless. That being said there are some changes I would hope to see in the future. The first one being the most obvious would be the upwards dash for Zero. I'm sure that's not as easy as it sounds since it would take some sprite work to do so. To go along with Docrow's work, it would be nice to see Zero's saber and buster mapped to two different buttons, Y for saber and X for buster, similar to what you see in the PS1 titles. To keep the game challenging I would remove the single, rapid shot and just keep the charging buster. Either have it charging or just come out instantly but nerf the damage. It would be also great to see Zero benefiting from all the capsules. Getting the buster upgrade could play into what i mentioned before about having two separate buttons and just upgrading his buster shot, or you could upgrade his saber by either changing the color to purple and increasing the damage or adding a two/ three hit combo. As it stands this hack, coupled with Docrow's, transforms this game into what it should have been, and finally puts in the proper pedestal that X1, X2 and X4 so rightfully enjoy. Add the features that I mentioned above and maybe others and we would have a true masterpiece that I would gladly have in a cartridge on my shelf. Fantastic work!
| Gold standard for ROM hacks | thecowwarrior | 2017-05-13 | Version 3.1 |
This stands as a shining example of what a ROM hack should be. It takes a good, but flawed game and turns it into a masterpiece. This is the game that Capcom should have released all those years ago. Zero is no longer a gimmick that exists solely as a blurb to use in advertisements, but is now a full fledged playable character. He has upgrades all his own, and offers a totally different playthrough than X. Zero functionally serves as the 'hard mode' of the game, similar to MMX4. In addition to that, this hack also features several balancing and gameplay tweaks that all make sense and improve the overall experience. Most notably the fix to the ride armor mechanics, amongst many others. This hack is highly recommended. Experience MMX3 as the worthy follow up to the preceding games that it always could have been.
| Lots of Fun! | Fakade | 2016-06-30 | Version 3.0 |
This definitely gives a breath of fresh air to X3, one of my favorite Megaman games of all time. Very well done, and thanks for all the work! Just to note, you have to relearn the game a bit. Zero has different hitboxes than X, so some strategies might change a bit. I don't want to spoil all the differences, so be sure to check it out! One thing I did notice was a bug of sorts. If you get Zero's saber for X (in Sigma 2 stage), you can still switch to Zero from the stage select screen. You cannot swap to X when you are in a stage, but this gives the player both X with Zero's saber, and Zero still playable. I did not complete the game on this, so I don't know how (or if) the story is updated or not.
| Well done! | thepatrickinator | 2016-02-17 | Version 3.0 |
Now this is what I call the complete version of Mega Man X3. It's even better than the original changing Zero from assist character to playable character and Justin3009 had finished what Capcom intended to do. Well done, Justin3009! Well done!
| Great, but has it's flaws | Animebryan | 2012-03-21 | - |
First, I'd like to point out a bug for this hack. When you get to the room with the X-Buster upgrade you'll notice that since Zero can't dash upwards, you'll need to switch to X in order to get up to where the capsule is. However, as soon as you get up there, you have to immediately switch back to Zero before approaching the capsule. If you approach the capsule & talk to Dr. Light as X, the game will freeze & you'll have to reset the game. As for the game itself, it nice to finally be able to play as Zero for the full game, even if it felt slightly harder. The problem I had was the same reason why Zero couldn't reach the X-Buster upgrade, along with a few other items, the fact that he couldn't dash upward! I don't know why he couldn't do this but it would've helped alot to be able to dash upwards in order to reach certain places or to climb certain walls that indented outward. I beat Sigma twice only to ragequit afterwards because you have to climb to the top of the final boss room after you beat Sigma in order to finish the game & the walls do stick outward which normally you could just jump away from the wall & dash upward. But not with Zero! And I died twice after beating Sigma because of that flaw. I hope that the hacker either finds a way to add a upward dash for Zero or he could find a way to give Zero the double jump ability like he does in the PS1 X games.
| Gives Zero the exposure he deserves... but | WeretigerRei | 2012-03-07 | - |
To start I fully recommend this but there are some issues that have nothing to do with the hack itself. After playing an hour or so I found Zero to be far more "clunky" than X. I think it may have to do with the way his charge shots and buster work. While on the ground, Zero's double charge shot on must be used while standing still unlike X. As a result I found it to be easier to play X early on in the game(note I forget if X's double charge behaves in the same manner). Note this criticism has nothing to do with the hack itself but instead how Zero was made to play by the game designers.
