| MM (4): After in Indonesia - complicated, but quite interesting | diablo666 | 2021-11-07 | Version 1.1 |
The first thing that is noticeable is that the Intro Screensaver has been removed. We don't lose much. It only speeds up the entry into the game. The second - the graphic part of the game - is done pretty well. After what I saw from this author, hacks on MM5 and MM2 are a huge leap forward. Third - Level Design. It's pretty good, despite the complexity that the author created. And the difficulty is the enemies. The fourth Is Enemies. Some of them are faster, some are stronger, and some are jumping further. Because of some - uneven complexity comes out. Fifth - BOSSES. Too fast, or some have a different AI. Some turned out to be honest, and some were unbalanced. However - surprisingly - the abilities save. As a result: the hack came out difficult, but passable. In a way, interesting and fun. The main thing is to know that it will be much more difficult than other "in terms of simple changes" hacks. I can recommend this one. Complex, but quite interesting.
| Mega Man: After in Indonesia - OKAY | Dobu_GM | 2021-08-18 | Version 1.1 |
Mega Man: After in Indonesia Levels: Good Graphics: Excellent Music: No Change (shuffled) Enemies: Okay Bosses: Okay Weapons: Okay Castle: Okay (Platforming heavy) Difficulty: MEDIUM (can be occasionally MEDIUM-HARD) Comments: After in Indonesia is something of a mixed bag. Anandastoon has finally grasped the concept of beauty, as After absolutely crushes it on the visual front. Levels are also significantly better than what we've seen in the Indonesia series thus far, routinely showing clever design and decent enemy placement. Unfortunately, there are a couple unwarranted difficulty spikes, requiring you to do some overly-precise platforming (Drill Man, Wily 1). Bosses have been amped up but in a somewhat poor way, having unwarranted spikes in their rooms and destroying your health bar should you collide with them. Meanwhile the Cossack and Wily bosses are forgettable as they're largely the same. Weapons have been mildly improved, but none are really notable outside of Flash Stopper blinding you with every use. I think After in Indonesia is on the cusp of being a good hack, but too many middling bits render it "just fine" at the end of the day. Probably worth a playthrough if you're accustomed to perilous jumps. (Heads up: you literally can't beat the Wily stages unless you have the Wire item)

It's not often that you find a hack as absolutely beautiful as this, but Anandastoon delivers yet again. I could write volumes about the beautiful worlds in this hack - and have - but I'll keep this from turning into a text tsunami. Dive Man's stage starts out in a mountain lake, but you go deep underneath, spending a lot more time in the dark than usual. Down in the depths, you'll see glowing coral and an underwater city. Skull Man's stage has a part near the end where the clouds in the black sky are pulsating green, blue, and red, like some beautiful nightmare. Ring Man's stage is made of darkness and rainbows; even some of the Hard Hats are pulsating every color of the spectrum, and at the bottom is a flashing cityscape. Even the screen that introduces your new weapon is now in hot pink! The songs are the same as they are in the original game, but they've been moved around, and their placement is almost perfect; the Cassock/Wily stages have the music placed in the best way I can imagine. I also love the new noise of the Flash Stopper. Speaking of the weapons, they all have new palettes - most of them lovely - and a few of them have slightly modified behavior; nothing too crazy, but they're interesting. The level design is pretty good, but the first 2 Wily stages are brutal, and occasionally a little cheap; it just seems like they're throwing too much at you at once. Other than that, this is an excellent hack that I'd recommend to any Mega Man fan.
