Hack description

Kuwata's first hack of Rockman (1). It features new levels, graphics, enemies, and even music. The levels are very challenging; some even have small puzzles in them.

It should be noted this hack will not work with a Mega Man ROM, you need to patch a Rockman ROM.

Rockman 2000 - OKAYDobu_GM2024-01-20Version 1.0

Rockman 2000

Levels: Okay

Graphics: Okay

Music: Okay (shuffled, a few MM2 tunes)

Enemies: No Change

Bosses: Okay

Weapons: Okay (just Hyper Bomb)

Castle: Good

Difficulty: MEDIUM

Comments: For an early Mega Man 1 hack, 2000 is very impressive. A handful of levels come with a distinct gimmick, like the abundance of ladders in Fire Man's stage and screen-warping labyrinth of Elec Man's stage. A couple of the boss fights are solid too (albeit mostly sped up), with Ice Man and Cut Man being great duels that require some finesse. Enemies tend to be overused however, spamming the screen in nearly undodgeable attacks unless you're packing Thunder Beam. And while it's nice having a shorter timer on the Hyper Bomb, sadly the Rolling Cutter and Super Arm remain just as useless as their original versions. You can still have a good time with 2000 though, especially since the 5 lives it hands you offset some of its meaner parts. Slightly better than average, if only just.

Rockman (1) 2000- An unusual hack from such a gamediablo6662021-11-04Version 1.0

I meet this hack first. I tried to play and enjoyed it. Graphically - a mix of original and new graphics. And, well so combine. But there are not obvious places because of this.

In the Fire Man stage, I was trying to figure out where to go until I accidentally clicked the up button.

But there are other places because of the graphics that cause a deja vu effect. But mostly it looks normal.

Enemies and other tricks are a special thing here. I was surprised that "pieces from enemies" are used as obstacles or in other ways. Surprising and a bit shocking. About tricks: "I noticed that bombs - although they are harmless if you touch them... They self explode after a while... Both shock and surprise... How did they do it before?" Problem this: many enemies... Too many enemies - in the Gutsman stage. A lot of enemies with shields or with a lot of health.

Enemies - they remained from the original, but differently made graphically. They are original, but in different levels - they are redrawn - and seem different.

Levels. Some levels were redesigned in an interesting way, unusual for that time, some - just honestly, some - have unusual solutions and features. But there are also those in which there are many enemies, and some - do not pass without abilities (Which is a plus, rather than a minus. Because the approach that you need abilities - not everyone uses)

Bosses - everyone's movements were accelerated, the AI was changed a little. But one boss was made in an original way. Yellow devil - first appears in one side of the screen, without flying the entire screen, which really came out fairly. And then - it acts on its own AI. But difficult ones that went too fast: FireMan and Gutsman. The rest are made more or less playable, or interesting

The abilities haven't changed in any way. Rather, one ability has changed. The bomb explodes much faster. The rest is not changed

Music is subjected to the first attempts to infuse different music. Although it sounds a little buggy, but the attempt is more or less successful. It doesn't break your ears.

Maybe I was lucky, or I played well... I didn't find any bugs (maybe others noticed them, so I don't rule them out)

Why do I recommend this hack? 1. Interesting levels with unusual features, other tricks of passage, or an unusual feed at the level of enemies 2. Bosses. Not all are good, but passable. And there are a couple of really unusual serves 3. Music. Attempt to port music - although there is, it breaks the game itself, pleasant to the ear. What can push this hack away? Difficulty and unbalance, some bosses.

Not very goodCANbus2021-09-20Version 1.0

In fact,it's the one of the hack earlier. But there's something mess around design like enemies and some of buggy. If without, that's perfect. Some of enemies in stage like ice,you can find it more and more appeared. It's laggy and drawback. And also Wily 1 do it.I don't recommend it.

Responsibly ExperimentalMother Kojiro2017-11-19Version 1.0

This hack has some very interesting ideas for levels, but in terms of layout and in terms of visual design. Guts Man now resides in a cool, futuristic mining area that looks like it could have come right out of the mid-'80s. Ice Man's stage begins with you sliding along what appears to be a deep pond, but is frozen on top, so you can't go into it, but there are all sorts of interesting things happening beneath the surface, bringing to the imagination a whole new world below. The old fences in Fire Man's stage can now be climbed, which completely changes how the stage unfolds, though there's a little trial and error toward the beginning. It also now features these gorgeous purple flames. Bomb Man has a pink and teal theme that clashes a little bit, but the actual shades chosen are lovely, and a bit evocative of an old SMS game; you will also find those big domes from the background now act as platforms, and the boss arena has a very cool aesthetic. Elec Man's stage has a lovely lime and blue scheme, with brightly-colored simple periods at the end, though, unfortunately, it does also contain my only real gripe with the hack. This might be a personal point, but I hate the mazes that sometimes show up in Mega Man hacks, because they often make little sense, and this one is no exception. The Wily stages have been revamped, too; the Yellow Devil isn't painfully slow anymore, and the second stage goes from a deep pink sky casting a blue glow on the dusky landscape below to bright green grass against a black sky for the sub-boss fights later on in the stage. Though it's not without its frustrations, neither was the original Mega Man; I'd highly recommend this one, even if for some of the interesting things it tries.

Challenging, but fun.Kallisto2017-02-05Version 1.0

The game presents a few twists that is not normally present in Megaman 1, and a few weakness changes that might throw players off a bit. Sometimes the enemies can be a little buggy, but nothing too detrimental to the overall game. Most of the bosses are decently challenging, and a few adjustments are required in order to beat them in their new settings. The most challenging bosses are toward the end of the game, and sometimes I feel that the Yellow Devil could use a little bit of tuning, but he is not impossible to beat, but it does require a little bit of luck on your side.

There is bit of enemy placement imbalance, but if you're a skill player then this would not be a issue.

I give this romhack around 7/10 for effort, it is solid on some stages, enemy placement, and puzzles, but in other areas of the game that it could use some polish here, and there.

Good, but buggy ROM Hack.AdrielRB2015-07-20Version 1.0

Well, its one of the first Rockman hacks in this site. I'd like the maze in Elecman stage. Also, some of the music of Rockman 2 are buggy. They contains some errors in the themes. In the last stage (Wily Machine), if you destroy the first phase of the Machine and you get shot, press the Menu (Weapons select) button too many times, you will go to another room, the Wily Machine disappear and the stage are moving (I can't do anything). Also, in the Elecman stage, when I go to the boss, I get teleported and stuck, but I can easily move and don't get stuck. That's another problem I see in this hack, but I think there's not a lot of support or editors in that year. By the way, looks a great hack, with these stages. I recommend this hack and I don't. I recommend this, because there's a bit hard enemies and bosses, and I don't recommend this, because the bugs and errors the hack have.

A nice, fun hack!Jimmy529052008-07-13-

This is a nice hack. Each level is unique and has its own little puzzle. The graphics changes are excellent, and most of the enemies are new and exciting. This hack is a lot more challenging than the original Rockman 1, and many Mega Man fans will enjoy this hack.
