Translation description

The original game is "Higemaru Makaijima Nanatsu no Shima Dai Bouken" c. 1987 by Capcom licensed for the NES Famicom. This title translates as "Haunted Pirate Ship Seven Islands Adventure", which is a Legend of Zelda type game with a nautical pirate theme. This translation patch was created so that you can play this game in English on an eight bit Nintendo emulator.

Fan Translation Yes!snark2008-06-04-

The fan version corrects the mispellings as well as using the literal translations of the islands, enhancing playability and retains the original flavor of the game. Although, the Makai island title screen looks prettier! :)

Play the official US prototype insteadPluvius2008-05-25-

Though this fan translation (Version 1.0) is acceptable, there is now a late-stage, fully-playable prototype for the canceled American version of the game, Makai Island, floating around on the Net. If you have access to this prototype, you're better off playing it not only because it's an official Capcom translation, but also because the game was reprogrammed to better handle English text. On the other hand, the prototype also uses a lot of Engrish, which isn't a problem in the fan translation. You should at least give both versions a try before settling on one of them.
