Reviews
| A good translation, with some bugs here and there. | fevermario | 2020-12-08 | Version 1.0 |
This translation generally does what it's supposed to, the dialogue flows nicely and feels natural. There are some bugs that were pointed out by another reviewer, but the only one I ever ran into during my playthrough was when my game would randomly corrupt itself and crash if I held the A button down for too long during random encounters, but then again, I had already done some research on the game before I started playing, and I made heavy use of online maps, due to not having the time, or the patience, to make my own. It would be wise for those who, for whatever reason, choose to torture themselves by attempting to play through this game blindly, to read the other review before starting, as some of the bugs could potentially ruin a blind playthrough. As for my thoughts on the game itself? Although historically important, it hasn't aged well. Players who go into this game without any prior knowledge are going to die a LOT. On many occasions, it is not clear where you're supposed to go. The only way you can figure out where you're exact location within the game is to use a spell, that you won't have right off the bat, that only lets you see within a small radius of you current location, and always changes direction when you do, so it's usefulness is limited at best. There are cases where items that are needed to make the game beatable are tucked away in hidden corners of sprawling labyrinths, and even when you aren't hunting down hidden artifacts, you will get to experience the joys of navigating around mazes of invisible pits, traps, and warp tiles. One particularly sadistic section forces you to try and make your way around a maze, where you are completely blinded by bright light, and the primitive mapping spell doesn't even work. Casual players who are just curious about this game's story (or at least, what little there is) would be better off checking out Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei instead, as that version has a whole host of quality of life improvements, and while still quite difficult, is far friendlier to newbies then the original, and it expands on the story and lore.
| Playable, but has minor issues | Griever_GF | 2019-11-06 | Version 1.0 |
It's pretty solid translation, and technically pretty impressive. But it has several annoying bugs/glitches, so it's not perfect. They are not critical for walkthrough and happen pretty rarely, but still... Here are the videos with these issues, if someone is interested: https://youtu.be/-I5Nh6uzO6M https://youtu.be/2hDzkKsXGd4 https://youtu.be/wRbUshy1SOc https://youtu.be/_AnXP8TD4Z8 I've finished the game using this translation and I guess it's OK. But I hope these little annoying issues will be fixed in the future.
