Great tool to learn Mahjong, mostly.xorxif2017-07-08Version 1.0

At one point I attended a library talk / group to learn to play Mahjong, and found out that the game is mostly (in my area anyway,) played by old ladies, and the group was mostly attended by old ladies looking to learn so they could play with their friends.

I am the type of person that likes complex things / games, so to be able to learn it without needing to be around a bunch of old ladies all the time sounded very appealing (YMMV...) I was pretty sure once I learned it I would have a lot of fun with it. So far, that has been mostly true.

I knew this was one of the original famicom releases and had always been curious about it, and this new patch inspired me to try it and gain a full understanding of the rules of Mahjong.

I used the following FAQ as a general guide: https://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/578219-mahjong/faqs/45452

(Be aware, as of this writing, the faq writer has the terms "pon" and "kan" switched around incorrectly, at least according to this game.)

I also ran into what may be(?) a bug in the original program, or I just didn't understand the game enough: Playing on LV1 for beginners, one time I was SURE I was able to call agari (complete hand,) (I think I had 3 consecutive pairs in my hand of the same suit, which I believe is 2 chiis(?)) and the game would not allow me to call agari, until the next draw, when the computer discarded the tile I needed(??) Another time, again I think I had 3 consecutive same suit pairs, and the game wouldn't let me call agari at all, even when my opponent discarded the tile I supposedly needed, or if I drew it myself.

As far as the patch itself, I see no flaws whatsoever! I also really appreciate giving the patch choice between original and arabic numerals for the number tiles. That is a big help when learning!

So YES try it! You may be surprised how much fun you have...

We finally have Mahjong games translated to English.thepatrickinator2017-07-06Version 1.0

I don't have to worry anymore because all the games that used to have a Japanese only release now get an English translation. For example, the two Mahjong games such as Mahjong and 4 Nin Uchi Mahjong by Nintendo. The Mahjong games translated to English have been a long time coming. Yahoo!
