Translation description

This patch is a complete translation for both of the games contained in this remaster: Atelier Marie: The Alchemist of Salburg and Atelier Elie: The Alchemist of Salburg 2, which were originally released for the PSX.

In addition to translating all of the text for both games, this patch also subtitles on the fly the only voiced video found in Atelier Elie, and adds back the attract videos that were found in the original PSX versions of both games, but which had been removed from this remaster.

It also adds back the Extra Menu that each of these two games used to have, allowing players to peruse again the artwork, music and endings they saw during the course of their playthroughs.

Additionally, the patch corrects multiple bugs the remaster had in its original form, including:

v1.01:

- Fix the audio tracks during the PS1 Opening videos which didn't play if the game was played on a burned disc.

A great translation of an almost forgotten non-localized gemSwetzie2018-06-03Version 1.01

This is honestly great. I saw that this game got a fan translation, and, as a huge Atelier fan (I played and finished every game localized in the West), I hurried and ordered this PS2 game. Applying the patch to the ISO is extremely simple (some can get overly complicated), so that's a plus. So, I tested it two different ways: using my modded PS2 (by burning the game onto a disc) and using my PS3 with CFW (latest version of Rebug). I mostly played on my PS3. Also, I finished Atelier Marie and just started Elie (the screenshots are from Marie).

Since this is the first time we (who don't speak Japanese, at least) can play the game, I have to say something about the games. This is, simply put, a lost classic. It is a really great game, and I can see why the Atelier series became a huge franchise. The game is extremely simple, but that's part of its charm. It's repetitive, but in a good, Harvest Moon-esque, way. It has some great songs as well. It is kind of unfair at some points, with some really tough battles. I have an issue though. I wasn't able to, not even once, successfully escape a battle. Is that a bug or is it supposed to be like this? Nevertheless, I really like these games, and finished Marie in just a day.

Next, I'll talk about the quality of the translation. The fact that it's playable on literally every possible way of playing a PS2 game is great. I don't know much Japanese (unfortunately), so I don't have the knowledge to compare them side-to-side, but the translation is really high quality. Actually, it's hard to believe that this was made by a couple of awesome people for free, since it's better done than some of the later Atelier localizations. It's really top-notch, I didn't find any bugs, any grammatical errors, any sentences exceeding their dialogue boxes, nothing. It feels genuine, like Gust really released it in the West. Here are some screenshots (I apologize for taking them with my phone, but they get the job done well):

You can see some translations of certain parts of the game (Marie in this case) in the screenshots.

So, thank you for translating this game. I cannot express my happiness, that's how grateful I am. I hope you will translate Lilie as well, to finish the trilogy? I would give you my full support, and help you whenever you need.

So, in conclusion, get the game and get the patch, you won't regret it. I had more fun with it than with the Iris and maybe even than with the Mana Khemia games, but that boils down to personal preference.

Keep up the great work.

EDIT: I just started experiencing some freezes. Three in total, to be precise. They seem to be happening during events when the text loads. It soft-freezes - the game is still running as well as the music, but I wasn't able to do anything.
