No-Intro Name: Soul Blazer (USA)Translation description
Steppolo Steppi made a retranslation of Soul Blazer, a true classic by Quintet, as he thought that Enix's translation was flawed. Now you can enjoy the first chapter of the fan nicknamed "Heaven and Earth trilogy" uncensored! However, the spells and equipment had some liberties taken, as the translator was unable to acquire a literal translation of their names.Screenshots

After doing my own full script rewrite, I can definitely understand how impossible it is to catch every grammar error and typo in an entire script. I was pretty excited about this project, but after playing through the first few areas, I'm not sure it's going to improve. A lot of the dialog is oddly phrased and pretty awkward - it's basically written as you'd expect a low-quality 16-bit RPG translation in the '90s to be. What's really strange is there are lines that I think are from the original, yet have very basic misspellings here. Overall, I think the author's intent was a more accurate translation from the Japanese. It very well might be more literal with the item/weapon names, but I'm surprised the author hasn't seemed interested in shoring up the misspellings and writing quality, which is pretty bad. At least for me, I'm sure what the novelty or value proposition is in this patch. I'm glad the author is giving Enix some love. I hope they can revisit this or accept some help (I've tried to contact them myself) to bring it up to spec! I would love to play and recommend a future version of this.
| Needs polishing | Tedenfe | 2019-01-08 | Version 1.1 |
The retraslation is great, but it still needs polishing. There's a lot of estetical problems in the text, and also some typos, especially in the first village, like Lisa saying "I an not sure", and almost everytime they talk about "Leo's paintings" in the first village, a down arrow takes the place of the apostrophe. I took sreenshots of almost everything, and I can provide to the author if it helps.
