A new English translation for Faxanadu has been released, thanks to the efforts of Goutetsu (Translator) and Unsavory Maggot (Hacker). This translation includes all of the features from the Faxanadu Restoration hack. All Japanese features have been retained for this release, including the censored crosses, rosaries, signs and statues, the name screen, and more. New features include a rewritten dialogue engine, restored graphics, restored text, hold A to speed up text, item use flavor text, corrected typographical errors and SRAM saving -- never write down another erroneous password! Includes numerous bugfixes -- weapons/armor no longer vanishes, the shield-less climbing animation is fixed, the pendant now correctly boosts your power, the fountain ladder no longer breaks -- and so much more! Uncover more of the mystery than ever before, with a fresh translation that promises to be more clear and accurate, utilizing expanded ROM and thorough editing. Ah, the good old times in which it was totally normal to censor games in such a way that Jesus on a cross was considered more dangerous for children than smoking adults. Faxanadu was one of the victims of Nintendo of America's questionable protection standards at the time. Coupled with a sloppy translation and the removal of a battery save, this made for a slightly butchered western release. In comes this re-translation that takes the original Japanese release without the censoring and a redone translation. So, in comes Jesus Christ, SRAM saving and some critical bugfixes are included as well, making for a potential "definitive" edition. Largely this re-translation succeeds in that regard, the authors did some amazing work here! The formatting isn't always correct, though. Line breaks are added in weird places, causing huge white spaces in between some sentences. Capitalization isn't always consistent either. And even though the text in the game is much better now, there are still some sentences that are hard to understand. The script could use a serous rewrite for western audiences to improve the quality and comprehensibility of the story. Overall, I give this release a thumbs-up. As it is the best edition of Faxanadu out there. I do hope however that one day someone takes it upon themselves to create a better script for this cool little game. | |||

Patched ROM doesn't work on real hardware (SUROM cartridge). Hangs on the first dialog window. Try to launch it on RockNES and you will see: the game hangs up the same way as having been running on the real hardware. I am disappointed with this fact and hope it will be fixed someday | |||

This is the best patch ever! This made the story better, the text is nice and readable, the pendant does what it is suppose to do, and the game save is a great welcome. This version became my debut LP on my FB page. I played the whole game and recorded it. This was the best run of Faxanadu ever! Much thanks to all who made this possible. | |||
