| Better than the Delocalized hacks! | Hamikon | 2022-09-27 | Version 1.3 |
In 1989, the official English version of Dragon Quest was released in USA under the name "Dragon Warrior". At that time, Enix already released Dragon Quest III in Japan which improved many things from it's predecessor. Because of that, Enix upgraded Dragon Warrior to make it stand out from Dragon Quest. One of the upgrade for Dragon Warrior is the inclusion of the Save-System which replaced Dragon Quest's Password system. In 2020, Polinym from the Woolsey Fan Company has made an English translations of the original 1986 Japanese version of Dragon Quest for the Famicom! Different from the Delocalized hack which retranslate the Dragon Warrior game and changing its sprites to match the Japanese version of Dragon Quest, Polinym's hack is the pure Japanese version of Dragon Quest but in English. Now with all of the unupgraded contents from the Japanese version of Dragon Quest that was not shown in Dragon Warrior:
If you're interested to play the Japanese version of Dragon Quest, but you don't understand Japanese, this hack is perfect for you to play!
| Fantastic translation for long time DQ fans and purists alike | BlueMoon95 | 2020-07-26 | Version 1.3 |
Dragon Quest, the original version that started it all, finally translated into English so we can finally have a far more closer experience that gamers in Japan had long ago. Although this version lacks many of the upgrades and changes that Dragon Warrior in the west was given, I understand that this fan translation wasn't meant to replace it and shouldn't be taken as an improvement patch when it's not. This is merely a wonderful literal translation of the original Famicom version that many like myself wanted to play to see the changes and experience them for ourselves in English after spending many years playing the official English localization on the NES. This translation patch does need some polish here and there, but I feel I would be nitpicking over something that's obviously full of enough love and attention already. The quality of the translation is fantastic and I would urge everyone who loves the first Dragon Warrior to give this a shot to see some of things that was changed during the localization, for a far more pure and literal Dragon Quest I. Highly recommended.
| Not necessary at all | Ashura Mage | 2020-06-21 | Version 1.3 |
I played it before I played the original American version and I thought it was good, but when I played Dragon Warrior, I saw how unnecessary it is, the English version has a save feature and more letters to put in the name. In this translation, it uses a long password system that uses not only uppercase and lowercase letters, but it uses numbers, drawn swords, shields and armors. And in the name of your character you can only put 4 letters. I recommend just playing the official Dragon Warrior
