Translation description

This patch translates Chrono Trigger from English to Spanish. Based on the Ted Woolsey's English script, it's much more loyal to the original text than other translations (at least in English), without neglecting the style and adjustment to context. It pays special attention to the differences of speech typical of each time period (Middle Ages, Antiquity, Future) and each type of character (Frog's archaisms, robots' technical language, Johnny's slangs, Ayla and prehistorical humans' speech by using infinitives, Queen Zeal's messianic type of speech, people of the future using a kind of modern slangish speech, etc.). These differences of speech were already present in the English script.

Frog's Shakespearian type of speech in English, with his Thou's and Thee's, has been translated into Spanish by using a slightly more archaic and rhetoric kind of speech, that sometimes resemble to the one used on the times of Quixote, with the usage of worshipful "Vos" archaic pronoun (and its conjugation) as a polite way of treatment, instead of "Usted" (sort of equivalent to the use of "Ye" in 17th century movies). At the same time, whatever singular "You" pronoun used in a polite context in Middle Ages, has also been translated by this kind of reverential "Vos", even when said by someone different to Frog. This sort of reduces the speech distance among Frog and his contemporary people from Middle Ages (a problem that the official English translation has), that still is noticeable.

Some names of weapons and enemies have been translated from the ones used in the Japanese SNES version. Names of locations, items, weapons, enemies and techniques have been translated carefully, by using synonymous terms to deal with the limit of space of either 10 or 11 characters per name in menus. All the menus have been translated. Graphics of magic elementary logos used in the menu have been translated, too. Other drawn texts, like Epoch's menu, or "Miss", have been translated too.

Special symbols and letters of Spanish language have been added, such as "ñ", "¡", "¿" and accented letters. No assembly code or battle rules and statistics have been altered in the process, as it happens in other existing translation(s).

A second optional extra patch allows to revert the character names of Ozzie, Flea and Slash to their original Japanese counterparts (Vinaga, Mayonne and Soysauce), hispanicized as Vinagar, Mayón and Saltz (derived from "Salsa de Soja").

This is a translation by Crackowia team. It has been made from scratch by Rod Merida, with the contributions, for certain dialogue fragments, of Mireya Scarlet (Ozzie, Flea and Slash dialogs in Magus' Castle). Final script review and corrections, made by Vicks Dg, have been added.

This translation is incredibly well done. They don't overused double characters and the abbreviations were carefully made. The script is faithful to the original game and they don't removed details like Frog's ancient accent.

The "Lightning", "Water", "Fire" logos were drawn very carefully and the result is excellent.

The two optional patches are a nice addition as you can restore the original names of some characters and the element logos. And because they don't do gameplay changes, the game experience wasn't affected.
