Translation description

Once, long ago, some folks who could both English and Japanese realized something. The script for one of the greatest 16-bit RPGs of all-time had been butchered in its English translation. Which is quite a pity, to be sure. So some fellows going by Hirata and Zickefoose rectified it by translating the game into English, and stick it in a text file somewhere. Then Naflign steps in. He adored Phantasy 2 (as anyone in their right mind SHOULD), and set about hacking this script into the game. And guess what?! He met with success. So now, you can enjoy Phantasy Star 2 in it's proper English glory.

Not bad, but needs more work.Spooniest2012-05-28-

Do check this mod out. It's not bad; it (for the most part) provides an interesting experience, even though it doesn't fix any of the things that were wrong with the original. It's a bit sloppy. For example, the character Anne (AMY in the original release) introduces herself with a four-letter name, yet if the player chooses not to rename her, this gets inexplicably truncated to "Ane." There's missing punctuation in the ending text as well, something that really is inexcusable.

Still, it's nice to see someone working on this game; the original domestic release really needed a touch-up. This just isn't "there" yet.

Didn't do a thing to help out? I saw how bad this was when it came out, way back when, and offered to proofread the guy's script to make it into correct English. He refused. If I didn't do anything to help out, it's not for want of trying.

Also, the patch doesn't fix the already existing grammatical errors in the game ("there doesn't seem to be any problems").

Those complaining about this translation fail to realize they didn't do a damn thing to help out. Appreciate what the guy did and offer some constructive criticism, or just play the original unaltered version instead.

This romhack shines around the time you get to the end of Climatrol where a world-shaking event takes place (quite literally shaking the entire world). It helps explain things a lot better than what the original game had tried to do.

Whether you're playing this game for the first time or you're a veteran, its definately worth it. Just be sure you can stomach the numerous spelling and punctuation errors. Despite these flaws though, its a very well-done script. Just be sure to check out the ReadMe so that you know what a 'Fibl' is.

Enjoy!

Spelling and Grammar Errors ruin this translation.zeteginara2010-07-26-

This translation is NOT a full re-translation of the game. Rather, bits of text are removed and re-added into the existing dialog.

These bits of text are often misspelled, or squished together in a way that annoys the reader.

You think that if someone had the time and drive to re- translate the game, they would at least respect their own re-translation enough to proofread it; and make it look professional. This looks like it was done by a little kid.
