Utility description
A small but neat sprite editor for Super Mario Bros. NES.Reviews
| Very useful if you know how to use it | NesDraug | 2022-03-17 | Version 0.3.0 |
This is not an graphics editor in the sense that you redraw graphics, but rather remap meta tiles. It's really useful if you wish to move graphics or free up space in the CHR banks. Or want to create custom enemies or background. You could for example change the Flagball (Residual Object) into a Tree Trunk "be be bf bf" and now the unused "Vertical Balls" is a climbable tree. I often remap the "Big Player Skidding" 18 19 1a 1b 1c 1d 1e 1f and just use Big Player walking instead. 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 That way the tiles: 18 19 1a 1b 1c 1d 1e 1f can be used to something else and redrawn in another editor like YY-CHR.

As far as I can tell, this editor is barely even an editor at all. Maybe I'm just missing something, but all I can seem to do is look at a few arranged tiles to make up larger sprites. Maybe you can change the layout of those tiles for the graphics, but I can't edit the graphics by themselves. This "editor" is just non-essential to me.
| Essential for advanced gfx mods | segwayspeedracer | 2018-10-18 | Version 0.3.0 |
I haven't noticed any changes with the 10-2018 update. If you are interested in updating graphics mods for SMB, you absolutely need to use this program. As essential as SMB Utility. It allows you to determine which 8x8 tiles are being used for each sprite, with a friendly graphic UI. Want to make Mario not have a mirrored body? This program will help you quickly choose new lower body sprites. The same is true for most sprites and tiles. You could theoretically remap your entire game if you choose Keep in mind it doesn't help you determine which palette each sprite has. Nor does it support graphic updates of breakable bricks, which, to my knowledge, will glitch if any overhauls are made to those sprites... without further mods made to the rom.
