A Great Way to Randomize MetroidMetroidMst2019-07-30Version 03

A few bits about the randomizer in general. The randomization seems to be less in favor of making a new maze world, but rather a lot of tall vertical shafts with horizontal dead ends off of them. This is nice for newer players, and still allows the player to get slightly lost, but keeps it relatively manageable. I do like that major items can basically spawn most anywhere. However, the random generation routines means you can get normal "item structures" without any item. And I also came across an item orb you can shoot, without an item in it. (And I had no items at the time so it wasn't an index issue.) That was a little annoying, but nothing breaking.

EDIT After a few updates to the randomizer, the major bugs I had mentioned before have been seemingly fixed, making this a definite recommendation from me, even in the current state. It's still rather limited in terms of selection of options, but it is plenty fun as is, and I believe Hex4F is still working on some more tweaks and features. Some features which would be nice might be a pipe dream for the time being since this is using the normal Metroid mapper though.

In all, right now, this is easily the best way to play randomized Metroid. There just aren't enough major items or roadblocks available in the original for the "regular" randomizer to offer too much. And while that is still true here, having to explore a new world, even if it's relatively simple in structure, is a far more enjoyable experience for this game.

Fun But Buggedsnarfblam2019-07-12Version 02b

Attempted a full play through. Unfortunately there were game breaking generation errors.

Looks like 98% of the world generated correctly, but that other 2% was a killer. The door that was meant to lead to Kraid was on the wrong side of the screen, which meant I got dumped off-screen and couldn't defeat one of the bosses. Tourian contained another error, where the final elevator was inaccessible, placed just above a ceiling.

The randomized world is definitely fun to play, and while I was able to beat it using a debugger, I'm sure that isn't the intended experience. Hope the generation bugs get fixed, because if not for those I would absolutely recommend this randomizer.
