A half decent level editor with room for improvementInsane Mame Gamer (IMG)2024-01-03Version 1.1

While it still may be the best Mega Man level editor out there today that's really not saying a lot. What I can't understand about this editor is how it's capable of doing so many things that aren't really needed but apparently isn't capable of performing basic functions that are most important to game play, such as setting/resetting the check points without causing serious technical issues or even harming the ROM itself.

To my dismay upon experiencing some technical problems of my own after moving around the player icon and setting the check points and discovering that it was completely sabotaging game play, I searched long and hard for an option to simply remove them but found no such option. This forced me start all over again and made creating or building a level hack the way I want nearly impossible. Instead I had to inevitably opt to create a more basic kind of level hack. I find it frustrating to use this editor due to these limitations and lack of options that thus far I haven't been able to solve, despite trying practically everything minus using a hex.

It's because of these issues that I was on the fence for a while in terms of whether or not I should recommend it. However, with that being said there are worse level editors out there, I do think it has potential to be great and in the future I anticipate the release of an improved version. Considering that it was released such a long time ago I would say that such a thing is long over due.

An almost perfect editoritsbazs2022-05-16Version 1.1

Just read the title. The editor has almost everything I need for a Mega Man 1 hack. My only problem is that if I move the beam down point, if I play the level that I moved the point in, Mega Man never reaches his destination and just teleports down into the abyss, then reappears in the top of the screen and continues teleporting down. Other than that, this is an AWESOME utility. But I have 1 thing to say: NEVER MOVE THE BEAM DOWN POINT.

UPDATE: I found a way to fix the beam glitch: Just use CTRL while moving the beam down point and make the point 1 pixel through some ground.

A True Example of How Level Editors Should BeMegafield642014-10-20-

This is by far one of the best level editors I have used so far. Just about everything within the game of the first Mega Man (both the US and Japanese version) is editable in this single program. Not only will this enable a game designer to edit every level in the game, but this also allows the damage data of each boss to be changed, all of the palettes are available to edit within this utility, and it even provides the option of choosing which music track will be played in each level.

There are a few things missing. For example, this utility cannot be used to change the text within the game. Fortunately, most of the things it can't be used can be easily edited within a standard hex editor or graphics editor. Every programmer that is creating a level editor for any game should use this as the role model for his/her project.
