SonED is A ROM/Save-State level editor for Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 2 "beta", Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and Sonic CD for PC.

Although unsupported, this utility was widely recommended for beginners over its more stable and more-well-featured successor, SonED2. While some claim to prefer SonED as a matter of taste, the later inclusion of "ROMulan" in SonED2 has supplied a means of interacting with ROM images similar to (but more powerful than) the original, which arguably, finally renders the original entirely obsolete.
